Objectification and Devaluing

Objectification is simply being objective without involving personal feelings in it. It

means setting aside your emotions by being focus on the subjects particularly on what

their talent is, and used that as a basis to judge them to the best of their abilities. For an

instance in a beauty pageant there are 24 candidates buying for the crown to win that

pageant. First each and every one of them will undergo in a series of challenge, wherein

they will flaunt their body by wearing two pieces, walk with their long gown, and lastly

answering the question and answer portion. With this the judges has a basis wherein

they will be able to choose the best candidate among the 24 ladies and will be able to

crown her as the winner of the pageant.

Devaluing is the process wherein it means the reduction or the cost cutting of a certain

products or goods. It is like depreciating the value or importance of a particular item. For

an instance there is this beauty queen she did manage to won the pageant, she did get

a lot of awards, and she was at her peek during those times. After 10 years her fame

glory decreases, people forgot who she is and a new beauty queen emerge and that

beauty queen is the one that they have been idolizing and not her anymore. In this

example fame and beauty last only for a period of time, it shows that as a humans our

time with fame and glory will come, and our time when the people will forget about us

will come also. It is one of the saddest fact in this world that the beauty queen should

live within in.

A woman in a Female Body written by Margaret Atwood illustrates to the readers

how woman is being used as a commodity to be able to promote a product for an

instance a liquor, the woman wearing bikini and smiling while holding on the brand of

the whisky. Woman as a model to a bra or panty company, wherein they are obliged to

wear the product and display their bodies with it, and they will smile confidently to be

able to sell and promote the product. The female body is being used as a means of

prostitution. At present there are many females who undergo liposuction, ligation, butox,

and different kinds of medical treatment to be able for their bodies to look young and

sexy. Some of them will do anything just to be lean, fab, and have that fountain of youth.

A lot of ladies desire this but few can afford, because it is expensive, that is why

beautification is extravagant just like Imelda Marcos.

On the other hand a female body is a temple of life, wherein a woman gives birth to a

child that will become the future of this generation. Female body is limited, special

edition, and has a respective timeframe wherein the owner of the body should use it

wisely. For an instance when a beauty queen won a pageant she is admire by a lot of

people, she have a lot of commitments to do in terms of television guesting, pictorial,

and foundation gathering. Woman is being turned into a commodity that should sell big

time in order for some people to earn profit.

The root word of objectification which is the object tells us that a certain thing or a

person is being represented. There is a symbol wherein the people will look up into, a

certain person coming out from nowhere that he/she will become the lightning beacon of

the hopeless, marginalized, and will be the voice of the people. For the people and by

the people only, in this society people look into a person who will be able to motivate

them, who will fight for them into the realm of the poverty, and human rights violation.Maybe that person is a politician, an actress, and a beauty queen. Devaluation on the

other hand is the depreciation of a certain thing, person, and the like. Wherein a certain

person will be disregard, for example when praying to God most of us Filipinos seek his

refuge in times of trouble, but after the problem that comes with a solution most of us

forget him. It is not just to that; in order for him to shower us with abundant grace people

should remember him always in their hearts and souls.

In the female body the woman is treated like an object she is not treated as

person. In what I understood with the Female body woman is like a plastic, wherein she

can be replaced with another plastic. The woman is composed of items and accessories

as if that woman is an item that can be sold and replaced by an item from the factory.

Woman is like an item being sold just like a beer wherein people drink and drink, they

didnt know what was there drinking. In a simple context woman should be treated withthe utmost respect, there are the ones who will rise up a child and become the future of

this society. Guided by their norms, and love for the child to grow as a better person for

the betterment of the society. Ms. USA is the same as the female body the story tells

the reader a woman is like a commodity being sold at a market and whoever is the

highest will get the beautiful and the most hot girl in town. A woman should be

respected cause our mothers is a woman too who raise us up to become whoever are

we right now.
