present and were recognized and noted.

2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Minutes from the Spring 2019 Meeting were reviewed. Motion made by Fran Kulik seconded by Ron Hall, to accept the minutes of the previous meeting with corrections. PASSED.

3. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS President Mike Spence presented his verbal reports: This is my last report as president as President of the MAA. This is an election year for President and Vice President. There continues to be abuse of Board member information that is on our website. If you get an unusual request that is

using a Board members name, check the email address the request is coming from. This year we have seen an overall decrease in attendance at our tournaments. This is also true for other state and

National organizations, especially the outdoor tournaments. In the past, fluctuations have coincided with the economy. When the economy is good, outdoor archery attendance drops.

A survey was sent to members (that receive their magazine via email) regarding changes to the outdoor MAA 420, in an effort to generate ideas that would increase the participation in this tournament. For example; a couple of the suggestions on the survey were 1) make the outdoor MAA tournament a “Welcome to the MAA” type tournament that is open to all archers. All archers would be open to awards. Members would pay $15, others would pay $20. Only members points would go to SOY points. 2) have a shoot off for the championship. Several different formats were suggested. This should be discussed under New Business.

Our Marketing and Public Relations manager, Ted Lemanski, has been busy. We will likely have some prizes to be given away at our tournaments next year and at the end of the season.

I have some items that I would like to see brought up under new business as a proposal by one of the reps on the boars, so that they can be discussed: 1) Change the 900 tournament to the same format as the NFAA National Target Championship. 2) Establish a 2 or 3 person committee to establish an annual MAA Scholarship fund. Possibly one $500 scholarship annually with criteria to receive the award to be established by the committee and approved by the MAA board. AT each tournament, ask each archer if they would like to contribute $1 toward the fund.

I was contacted by a NY attorney about the indoor MAA 420 round. Apparently Creekwood Archery has taken an NFAA target face, has screening placed between the scoring lines, and has called the face and round the 420 round. Creekwood Archery has obtained a copyrights type of ownership for the round and face. We had mistakenly placed their target face on our website. That image was removed immediately after the notification by the attorney, and was replaced by the correct target face. Also, our round is officially called the Indoor MAA 420, not the 420.

We are all saddened by the passing of Jim Beasley, Carol Bitner sent a condolence card from the MAA to Jim’s family. Jack Romeo remains in the hospital. 4. MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR'S REPORT Carol Bitner presented her report. Overall, we have lost 18 people. Carol was able to find club affiliation for more people

on her No Regional Affiliation Report. Motion made by Jeff Kohler, seconded by Dave Barnsdale to accept the Membership Coordinator’s Report. PASSED.

those that were received today. Only one is outstanding and will be received by the end of the meeting. A motion was made by Larry Boone, seconded by Rusty Curtis, to accept the verbal report. PASSED. 8. AWARD SECRETARY'S REPORT Jeff Kohler reported for Scott Hansen - Associations please pick up your member’s awards today. Rick Hotchkiss reported

that SOY belt buckles cost has increased from $14 to $19 each. Scott had been looking into alternative awards. The Board will ask Scott to bring alternatives to the Spring Meeting 2020.

A motion was made by Rusty Curtis, seconded by Fran Kulik to accept the verbal report. PASSED. 9. EDITOR'S REPORT No Report 10. WEBMASTER REPORT Sherry Lance requested more pictures for the website. If pictures of minors, please have permission from parents. USA

Archery uses a media release when registering for all shoots. State Tournament reports and State Records should be correct. Mike Spence will check with NFAA to see if they have a release they use. The website contains Current State Records only. Sherry is looking for a backup person. She uses Word Press and IPages. Sherry would also like feedback on improvements and what people like. Sherry will work with Dave Barnsdale on how to put Sponsor logos on the website.

first instance. Second instance will require removal of archer from the event. This rule was passed for liability purposes due to the number of instances and an injury at the 2019 Indoor National tournament.

These changes take effect 1-1-2020. Next meeting will be in 2021. A motion was made by Larry Boone, seconded by Fran Kulik, to accept the NFAA Delegate’s Report. PASSED. 11. MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS REPORT Ted Lemanski presented his written report: 80 Archery Shops

I called the 80 Archery Shops listed in the 2017 ATA Directory. 47 are still in business Discussed and sent: letter to Archery Shops, Shop MAA flyer, MAA Sponsorship document All Shops agreed to promote and display the MAA flyer

Page 6: Archery in Michigan - Michigan Archers Association...archers. All archers would be open to awards. Members would pay $15, others would pay $20. Only members points would go to SOY

NOTE: Creating the MAA flyer for the shops was a good idea. About a third of the shops knew little to nothing about the MAA as expected servicing the hunting community was their focus, this should drive shooter participation.

Six shops sent me their logo to post on the MAA website No interest in donations to become a MAA Sponsor OBJECTIONS: They already donate to organizations in their area; in general, complained about slow business and

tight money 30 Manufacturers listed in ATA directory

Started contacting them October 16 Bohning my first call signed up for Gold Sponsorship Will finish contacting the Manufacturers by the end of the year and submit my results to the board

Social Media I reached out to Chris Bee yesterday and made a request to produce 3-4 minute video about the MAA; waiting on a

response Actions

Discuss where we want the Archery Shop logos and Sponsorship Logo/Advertisement on our website End of December send my final report to the Executive Officers, Appointees and Board of Directors Find my replacement

Ted distributed copies of the letters sent to Archery Shops and Sponsor information. A motion was made by Carol Bitner, seconded by Lora Smith to accept the Marketing and Public Relations report.

This past summer, I was fortunate to see The Michigan Open Mounted Archery Competition hosted by the Red Hawk Archery Riders and I have to say that this was something that I have never seen. I was eating lunch in the local café with my grandchildren when these nice folks from Tennessee came in and were talking about shots and animal targets. This got my attention right away. So I asked, “are you talking about Archery?” They said “Yes.” The third annual Michigan Mounted Archery Competition was that weekend at Ealey's Outback Ranch. Well, I knew I wanted to find out what it was all about. If you have not seen or heard about this growing Archery sport, you should. My grandchildren and I really enjoyed it. Bella wants a horse now! There were different levels and types of shooting. On Saturday, they shot at a FITA type target from a horse in a straight line. They received points from the arrows shot and the time it took. It was fast paced enough to keep the people watching involved and the nice person calling the scores taught us how to call out the arrows scores in the proper southern accent. He also was from Tennessee. Well, that's when I had other things to do and unfortunately had to leave. On Sunday, I ran over to watch a little bit of the Cross Country competition. The great folks at the ranch told me of a great and safe spot to watch from. When I got there I was not the only one. I talked with several different people. Some were archers, some liked the horses, and some of them were family and friends of competitors. This part of the shooting was done like a 3D shoot but timed and done from horseback at a canter. This appears to be very challenging as well as fun to watch. I have enough problems shooting with getting my head into the game, now think about getting a horse to get into the right mind frame. I'm not sure if they got to shoot the last round as the weather became threatening and they had to call for a delay due to lightning. I needed to take the grandchildren home as their week with Grandma and Papa was up. It sure was nice to see a new archery event, meet a new Archery family even if it was briefly. I will plan better next year for sure. Got to say it was nice to see all different ages watching and shooting. I saw lots of families and youth shooting. The bows, saddles, horses and ranch are breathtaking. I still can't believe this was two miles from my house and I didn't know about it! Safe hunting and shooting everyone. Russell Curtis
