FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts SUBJECT TITLE: ARCHOJT (On-the-Job Training for Architecture Students) RATIONALE/ OBJECTIVES: An off-campus skills development and practical learning aimed at providing the students: 1. The opportunity to gain experience and familiarization with the various specialty works by training in private architectural firms, government and non-government offices engaged in design, planning, construction and other related fields. 2. The venue to appreciate the theories and principles and its applications, validations in actual work situations of professional practice. 3. The benefits in terms of credits not only in the subject but also in thesis preparation including the diversified experience required in the PRC Licensure-board examination for architects. Course Description: The course is an on the job training for architecture students. Supervised and educationally directed, this initiates the student’s architectural apprenticeship. Credit Units: 3 units Total no. of hours: 200 Hours Mechanics: Step 1: Prior to enrollment, the student is required to apply for off-campus OJT in a professional office/firm (with student resume and letter of recommendation signed by the faculty-adviser/consultant). Step 2: The student enroll/register in the subject ARCHOJT. Step 3: The student attends the first day of classes and every succeeding Mondays for reporting and submissions. Step 4: The student reports for regular training on Tuesdays thru Fridays in the office/firm and receive instructions and works under the supervision of the architect or his partner/assistant/project captain. Weekly consultation of students with IARFA faculty- adviser is held during Mondays. Step 5: The faculty monitors the students’ progress and evaluate their performance in coordination with the architect or his partner/assistant/project captain. Step 6: Performance ratings/grade: Evaluation of student after completion of required number of hours for the OJT, which is 200 hours. Students will be graded according to the ff: criteria by the immediate supervisor/s of his/her OJT firm in an “Evaluation Report Form” from FEU-IARFA a) Attendance/Punctuality b) Competence/Dependability c) Accuracy/Effectiveness Design/Bldg. Science Technology Manual/Electronics Drafting Site/Basic Urban Planning Other related works to architecture d) Interest/Cooperation e) Personality/Interpersonal relations
