UK COAST TO COAST OVERVIEW

Travel the breadth of the UK on this five-day coast to coast adventure that is probably THE most challenging trip that we run. You'll get to see the best of the moors, dales, Westmorland and the lakes and really put your 4x4 through its paces, all under our expert guidance.

For those who can only make it for the weekend, we do offer a two-day option so you can join us for the Saturday and Sunday in the Lake District.

This is a route of contrasts. The Yorkshire moors offer a wild landscape - from wide vistas of open countryside to a rolling high plateau of heather and open moor, with tell-tale signs of man's impact over the years from abandoned mines to railways.

On the other hand, the Yorkshire Dales offer picture-book views of high fells, barns and sheep grazing as we cross from Wensleydale into Swaledale, considered to be the prettiest of the Dales. The higher and steeper terrain provide spectacular views and the rocky lanes pass by waterfalls, lakes and even roman remains as we travel on an ancient highway across the roof of the dales. Descending towards the Howgill fells the countryside becomes more open and rolling, but not before passing some of the highest peaks in the region.

Crossing into the Lake District the landscape changes again with high, craggy peaks which descend into steep-sided valleys. The rocks which form these magnificent views also provide a firm base for the lanes which wind up over the passes via some of the most technical terrain you can find in the UK. The reward for tackling these lanes are spectacular views looking down over lakes across Morecambe Bay and ultimately the Irish Sea. The landscape here is wild and varied - you can see why it inspired so may authors from Beatrix Potter to Wordsworth.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY 4 nights/5 days or you can choose to just join us for two days on the Saturday and Sunday in the Lake District.

DAY 1 - BOGGLE HOLE TO NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS We start at Boggle Hole with a chance to dip your tyres in the North sea. From here we go via the picturesque village of Grosmont, well known for its beautiful steam trains and station and over the stunning North Yorkshire Moors down rocky tracks and through rivers, including the famous lane, Rudland Rigg.

DAY 2 - YORKSHIRE DALES Day two continues the journey west across the Yorkshire Dales, beginning in Leyburn we will travel through the rivers and washouts in this magnificent national park area.

DAY 3 - WESTMORLAND Day three is our Westmorland route which begins in Hawes and allows us to continue heading towards the Lake District through the lower reaches of the Dales and around the Howgill Fells.

DAYS 4 & 5 - LAKE DISTRICT Our last two days are spent in the Lake District which is by far the most technical and challenging route in the North of England - you'll spend an intense two days tackling rock crawls and boulders, tricky descents and corners, all with the backdrop of spectacular views over the national park before finishing with wet tyres in the Irish Sea at Seascale. For those joining us just for the weekend, we meet on Saturday morning and the trip usually finishes on Sunday at 4pm, but of course you can leave at anytime!

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD Accommodation and food are not included in this trip price. If you would like some recommendations for local hotels, please contact us.

WEATHER AND CLOTHES At any time of year the Moors, Dales and Lakes can produce anything from bright sunshine to wind, rain and sometimes snow! Be prepared for all seasons - sometimes all in one day!

- Warm clothes - Wet weather coats - Sturdy boots - Hat and gloves, especially for the evenings - Cotton trousers rather than jeans, which can take a long time to dry out when wet - A pair of sturdy gloves may be useful for recovery or when working on your vehicle

TERRAIN AND DRIVER ABILITY Terrain varies from wet moorland tracks to the hard rocks of the Lake District and there will be river crossings. Some of the tracks in the Lake District are among the most technical on any of our adventures, however we're with you all the way to ensure everyone from the novice to the experienced driver has the best day out.

For every Ardent Off Road Adventure there are two guides in the lead vehicle, who are on hand throughout your trip to provide everything from basic instruction to improving existing skills and recovering your vehicle. However, we do understand that some people may want to build their 4x4 driving confidence and skills prior to their holiday, which is why we also provide Adventure Ready Training at our track in Carlton Towers, Yorkshire. VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS Low-box, basic underbody protection and recovery points along with all-terrain tyres. While not essential, we do advise having your vehicle serviced before the adventure. If you are unsure of anything, please contact us before booking.

SAFETY We carry medical kits, our guides are all first-aid trained and we have emergency beacons to hasten location and evacuation in emergency situations. Lead vehicles have full recovery equipment which is tested before departure and we also carry a range of tools and spares. Our top priority is to keep both you and your vehicle safe at all times.
