Students…

are you ready

for SkyDrive Pro?

How do I access SkyDrive Pro? Skydrive Pro is a part of Office 365. This means that all your Office stuff

(Outlook, Skydrive, Calendar, etc.) are located in one place. Go to outlook.com/my.fhsdschools.org

Log-In: Your log-in is your email address. (first initial last name last 3 digits of your student #@my.fhsdschools.org)

ex: [email protected]

Password:

If you’ve never used this account before, you’ll have a few things to set-up before you get started…

You’ll be prompted to create a password. It must have:

8 characters

1 uppercase letter

1 special character or number

Click ‘Save’.

Select the correct time zone (Central Time (US & Canada)…scroll all the way to the top, then down almost ½ way.

If you’ve logged in before… you’ve already created your password.

If you haven’t logged in… your password is Fhsd###### (#s are your student ID # and yes, the F is uppercase and the others are lowercase).

If you’ve forgotten your password… see instructions on page 6 of this document showing you how to reset your password.

You are now logged in to your Office 365 account!

You’ll see all of the options available for you on the top right hand corner of your screen.

Currently, you are on your email screen.

Find ‘Skydrive’ on the top right hand corner of your screen & click on it.

You’ll be prompted to ‘get social’, click ‘ok’.

Know that it will take about 5 minutes for the site to set-up your page. While you’re waiting, you can add a profile photo, but if time doesn’t allow for this now, this can be done later.

On the top right hand corner of your screen, click on ‘Skydrive’.

How do I create a new folder in SkyDrive Pro? The easiest way to do this is by selecting ‘New

Document’ then scroll down to ‘New Folder’.

Title the folder and click ‘Save’. Folder created!

How do I create a new file in SkyDrive Pro? Click on the folder you want the document to go in.

Then select ‘New Document’ and scroll down to the type of file you need.

***This example will show you how to create and work with a Word document.

Title the file and click ‘Ok’.

You are now working with a limited version of Word. For most of us, using Word online (a.k.a. the Web App) will meet our needs. To ‘save’, click on the blue disk on the top left of your screen.

To access your document again later, from the Skydrive screen, go to your document and select it.

Notice… this is just a picture of your document.

To edit it, select ‘Edit Document’ at the top of the screen.

We suggest working in the Word Web App as much as possible because saving the document is simple. If you need to format your document and are not finding the features in the Web App, we suggest finishing your document as much as possible, then transferring it to the full version for formatting it at the end of your project. (This is addressed on the next page.)

How do I transfer the document to the full version of Word, PowerPoint, Excel,

etc.? The online Web App programs are good enough for most things, but sometimes you need the features of the

desktop program, like formatting for example. Again… work with your document in the Web App as much as possible,

then transfer it to the full version at the end of your project. It’s not challenging, it just takes a few minutes.

Login to Skydrive Pro. Click on the document you want to open. Select ‘Edit Document.’ Choose ‘Edit in Word.’

You’ll get a pop-up message. Click ‘Ok.’

Sign in with your Office 365 log in & Password. (Forget how to do this? See page 1.)

When your document opens, you’ll see a yellow bar at the top of your screen. Click ‘Enable Editing.’

You’re now working on your document using the program on that computer! One final thing…notice the save button on the top left corner of your screen? As long as you see those green arrows on your save button, when you click the blue disk, you’re automatically saving that document to Skydrive Pro. Neat, huh?

When you’ve saved, you can close your document. Don’t forget to log out of Skydrive Pro too! While you’re there,

double check that your doc saved properly.

How do I print from the Web App? There are a few steps to print when you’re using the Web App.

Click on the ‘File’ tab on the top left.

Click ‘Print’.

Click ‘Print to PDF’.

Click on the ‘Click here to view the PDF of your document’ link. A new window opens showing you your document as well as a printer menu pop up.

The printers that you have available to you will be different depending on where you are located. In the Learning Commons @ FHC, select the BW1. Select ‘Print’. The printer is located at the circulation desk. We suggest picking up your document before you log out of your machine.

How do I access my Office 365 account if I’ve forgotten my password? We’ve all

forgotten a password or two. No stress. Go to the log-in screen & click ‘Can’t access your account’.

Type in your email address (first initial last name last 3 digits of your student #@my.fhsdschools.org) & the alpha-numeric characters, click ‘Next’.

This sends our IT department a work order and they will reset your password for you. This might take a few minutes, but know that this will be handled within 24 hours. Your password will be reset to Fhsd###### (#s are your student ID # and yes, the F is uppercase and the others are lowercase).

***If for some reason your password hasn’t been reset within that time frame, or you run across a problem,

see a member of your Library Learning Commons staff. They can help.***

You’ll then be prompted to change your password. Don’t forget…it must have:

8 characters

1 uppercase letter

1 special character or number Click ‘Save’.

How do I save an existing document to SkyDrive Pro?

If your browser allows you to drag & drop documents into Skydrive Pro, know that dragging folders won’t work, but multiple files can be done by selecting all of them.

If your browser does not allow you to drag & drop documents into Skydrive Pro, click on ‘new document’ then ‘Upload Existing File.’

Click ‘Browse’ to find your file.

After you file your file, click ‘Open.’ Then click ‘OK.’ Done!
