“Our Patron Saints” This past Wednesday (Sept. 23), the Church celebrated the memorial of St. Pius of Pietrelcina, more commonly known as Padre Pio. I would consider Padre Pio to be one of my patron saints. When I was studying in Italy for my semester abroad in college, I got to visit his tomb in San Giovanni Rotondo. While I was praying at his tomb, I got the sense that Padre Pio was interceding for me and watching over me. Throughout my life, he has shown up at significant moments in my life and made an impact on me. I consider St. Pio’s patronage to be a Godsend. Normally, a patron saint shares something in common with us. For instance, a policeman named Michael would have a double connection with St. Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of policemen. For St. Pio and me, we do not seem to have much in common. Nevertheless, God seems to have granted Padre Pio to be one of my patrons. I attribute many moments of growth in my knowledge and love of God, moments of peace in the midst of troubles, and times of holy zeal to St. Pio’s intercession. I have always found it helpful to be mindful of my patron saints. How does one know his or her patron saints? For starters, our first and middle names are automatic patron Saints. (Hence, the significance of naming children with Christian/Saint names). Other indicators are our confirmation Saint, the Saint’s feast day on which we were born, the patron of our occupations or interests, and random yet significant moments of connection with a certain Saint. God gives us patrons to help us along the way. They are like spiritual friends on whom we can rely for help and intercession, as well as companionship on our way to God. Most importantly, they help us to worship God and Him alone, helping us ever grow ever closer in love and knowledge of our loving God. Fr. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. -5:15 p.m. and is followed by Mass. All are welcome! Can you consider spending one hour with Him each week? If you can then please call Wanda Paumen at 320-485-2138 or (cell: 612-214-4872). If a weekly commitment doesn’t work for you, could you be a “substitute”?

HOLY TRINITY RECTORY UPDATE: Thank you for the generous response to our invitation to donate towards work being done in the rectory. We have had some rooms painted and have ripped out the old carpet in a couple rooms in order to restore the original hardwood flooring. One of the upstairs rooms has been painted so that we can use it for a Blessed Sacrament chapel -- it is such a blessing to have Jesus with us in the rectory so that we can begin and end our days with Him. We are hoping to continue painting and work on some improvements in the kitchen, including replacing the refrigerator and stove. Please let me know if you would like to donate time or resources towards this effort.

WEEKEND MINISTRIES: If you are interested in resuming one of the ministries at the Saturday or Sunday Masses, please contact Bonnie at the Parish office. If you are interested in beginning to serve in the ministries as Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, Reader or Usher, please contact Bonnie at the Parish office (485-5651).

WEEKEND MASSES: Please remember that masks are required unless you are unable to do so due to an underlying health condition. We also need to continue to “social distance”. ALSO: As more people are attending Mass we need to be aware of the space in our pew. If someone is on one end of a pew and there is room for you to go to the center of the pew, PLEASE do so. This will allow for someone else to sit on the other end of the pew.

SYMPATHY AND PRAYERS: Our parish extends its sympathy to the family and friends of Dean Schermann whose funeral was celebrated this past week. May he find rest in God’s peace.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Religious Education classes began this past Wednesday, September 23. COMMON CUP COAT DRIVE: Common Cup is again collecting new and gently used coats for children and adults. This includes coats, mittens, snow pants, and hats. A box has been placed in the back of each of our AFC church buildings. Direct donations can also be made to the Common Cup Office at 105-2nd Avenue in Hutchinson. The last day to drop off donations at the churches is October 10/11 weekend. For more information, contact Debbie Donnay at 320-864-5914.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Pop Tabs: The Knights of Columbus would like to thank everyone for their donation of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. We recently brought in 14.6 pounds of pop tabs!! There is a container in the gather area to drop them off. The next paper drive is November 19, 20 and 21 in the upper parking lot of St. Pius X Church. The drive is open Thursday and Friday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - noon.

EACH PARISH of the St. John Paul II Area Faith Community is compiling an email list to be able to communicate easily with parishioners in addition to the Sunday bulletin. If you would like your email added to the parish list, please contact your home parish with your email address.

***WEEKEND MASSES: Changes: With the mandate of mask wearing, we feel we are safe to open up more pews in our church, therefore allowing for more attendance. Along with this, we will no longer require reservations to be made to attend the Masses. Please remember that masks are required unless you are unable to do so due to an underlying health condition. We also need to continue to “social distance”. SUPPORT OF OUR MINISTRY: You may still drop your donation in the basket at weekend Mass, at the parish office, send it to the church by mail or use our online PayPal option. If you would like to set up automatic withdrawal, please contact Shirley at the parish office. Thank you for your continued support of our ministry during these difficult times.

WE PRAY for the repose of the soul of Jose Angel Gonzalez Zul whose funeral Mass we celebrated recently. May he find rest in Christ’s peace.

WE ARE PROUD of St. Pius X alumnus and former parishioner Adam Eberhard, who has been accepted by the Diocese of New Ulm as a seminarian. Adam is the son of Bob and Gloria Eberhard, formerly of Glencoe. Adam is in the Pre-Theology program at the St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul. Please keep him and all of our seminarians in our prayers. If you would like to send a note of encouragement to Adam, you can do so at the following address:

Adam Eberhard St. Paul Seminary 2260 Summit Ave. St. Paul, MN 55105

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: First Week of RE: We had our first night of RE classes on September 23. It was so wonderful to have the students back in the building. We are still accepting registrations for class. Please contact Sue Mielke at [email protected] or 320-864-5162 if you need registration information. RE Volunteers Still Needed: We are still in need of substitute catechists. Contact Sue Mielke if you are willing to volunteer. What to watch on Formed.org this week: September 29 is the feast of Sts. Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel, Archangels. Look for the movie, “Power and Dominions” on Formed.org. Within God’s creation there are beings with intellect and free will: humans and angels. This film explores the spiritual world, that very real but unseen realm: God, the human soul, angels, demons (fallen angels), spiritual warfare, the reality of demonic possession and exorcism, and the dangers of the new age movement and the occult. Need something to listen to while you’re driving? Download the Formed app to your phone and look for the audio recording called “Former Satanist Becomes Catholic.” Betty Brennan shares the story of her remarkable journey from a dark existence of devil worship to the fulfillment of truth in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. For our younger people, watch Cat Chat episodes, “Teach Me to Pray” and “Building the Kingdom.” If you do not have a Formed membership, look at the AFC page of the bulletin for instructions on how to sign up.

  • Holy Trinity School Making Disciples Since 1883

Dear St. John Paul II Area Faith Community,

“Let’s Build Together” Our school theme this year is “Let’s Build Together.” Catholic education is a life-changing blessing for any community, and we want to keep it strong here in the St. John Paul II Area Faith Community. Together, we can build something powerful and beautiful for the lives of our children—the foundation of our future. As many of you know, last week we launched our annual Marathon fundraiser. Many of you have already been generous when asked by a student for a donation. Thank you! These donations are incredibly helpful during these lean times, especially as the school budget took a big hit without Winstock this summer. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! There are three main ingredients that we need to build together: prayer, donations, and students. Please keep us in your daily prayers and keep an eye out for students looking for donations, especially after the weekend Masses these next few weeks. And as always, no school can exist without students. We would love to have more. Please spread the word, and if you have school-aged children, please prayerfully consider sending them to Holy Trinity School. Do not let your finances keep you from giving your child the blessing of a Catholic education. We have need-based financial aid to help bridge the gap. All of you reading this, in one way or another, are benefactors of Holy Trinity School. We pray for our benefactors as a school every day. Please keep us in yours. God bless,

    Anthony Biese, Principal

School Pictures This year school pictures will take place on Thursday, October 1. Picture packets will be coming home with students in the next few weeks. Once again, parents will be able to order online.

  • Area Faith Community News ATTENDING MASS: As our Sunday morning Masses attract more and more people (which is a good problem to have!), I just want to remind our parishioners who are elderly or in vulnerable health that attending weekday Mass is a really good option because there is ample space in the church. There also remains quite a bit of open space at our Saturday evening Masses. Thank you for following the governor's orders for wearing masks so that we can continue to welcome people back to our Masses.

OUR CURRENT STRUGGLE AND SUPPORT OF THE MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH: As you know, the ministry we share in the name of Jesus Christ depends on your generous and constant support. We usually receive your donations through our weekend Mass collections, but in this extraordinary crisis, our numbers for these celebrations are limited. We ask that you do what you can to continue helping us to meet our obligations to our employees, and to pay our bills. We are trying to provide ministry online, as much as possible, and we will continue to reach out to you in prayer. Please do what you are able to support our parish’s ministry. You may drop your donation at weekend Masses, mail your donations in, drop them by the parish office, or now use Pay Pal to make your donations. If you would like to set up automatic withdrawal please contact Bonnie at Holy Trinity or Shirley at St. Pius X or Holy Family.

RCIA: Beginning this Fall, we will start RCIA sessions. If you are interested in attending RCIA sessions, please contact your parish office to sign up. The place/time for these sessions will be determined after we know how many participants will be attending and from which parish they are coming from. Please see the bulletin directory or bulletin cover for parish office numbers.

DISCOVERING CHRIST: Life can be overwhelming. Too many worries, too many places to be, too many items on the to-do list. Do you ever wish for some way - any way to slow down, to get away, and really consider what it's all about? We invite you to join us for the Discovering Christ program. It is for anyone who is curious or seeking answers. Each night features a thought-provoking presentation designed to explore the meaning and purpose of your life. After the talk, you can share your thoughts in a small group (and talk as much or as little as you wish). It's all done in a warm, friendly, and judgement-free environment. Discovering Christ is fun, relaxed and FREE. 7:00 p.m. Sunday evenings and a Saturday retreat. October 11 - November 29, 2020.
