The ARMADA SUR Diaries

Late, late into the night we stopped at aback street bar for a leak and found itrammed with CDT fans – cue moredrinking. We awoke next morning to find thatGordon The Moron loved the city so muchhe had kissed the pavement with his face at3am, when we met up with him we nevermentioned the 4 stitches and heavybruising – well not much. All aboard forthe trip back to Madrid via a food stop inthe historic town of Avila. The Generaldropped us off at the Metro by the BernabeuStadium and parked the bus at the hotel.DJ Johnny split off to watch Liverpool atThe Tavern, the local Reds meeting placewhile we headed for Sol and our favouriteIrish sports bar.Buckets of Coranita beer and mountains ofcrisps, a kebab stop and more beer before alate bus back to the hotel. Gordon wasstaying on for a day and retired earlywith a cup of cocoa. We managed a fewhours sleep before therude awakeningof our flight as wereturned homewith a win andthree points.

El GeneralWith eight games remaining, four at home and four away, it would takea major drop in form for CD Tenerife not to finish as Champions.Obviously that is not enough for promotion and the play-offs await. Thedates for the play-off final (two legged tie) are 26th May and 2nd June.IF, we manage to finish top and then win that final we will be promoted. After that the winners of both finals will play another two legged game toestablish the Champions at Segunda B level. These dates are likely tobe Thurs 6th and a week later on 13th June. This final is really onlyworthwhile to see if the team can win a nice shiny trophy but needlessto say it would be a great celebration and p*** up!Maybe we are jumping the gun slightly but I am confident that this teamhave their feet on the floor and have learnt from last season. Looking atpossible rivals in other regional groups; Alaves are odds on to win theirleague and this many agree would be the toughest draw (although fairlyeasy to travel, for fans via Bilbao). In the East coast group HuracanValencia and CE L`Hospitalet (Barcelona) are the top two and in theSouth group, Real Jaen (north of Granada) and Cartagena (nearMurcia) are favourites but harder to get to for the Tenerife support. One last thing, we are looking at the bbq date to be around the 23rdJune but not yet confirmed. Such fun!

Date: 6th Feb 2011Place: SalamancaEvent: Salamanca vs CDT

With an out of date residencia it wouldhave cost Tolf another 200 euros to join our10 euro flight to Madrid, so we set out onedown. The mini bus drive to Salamancatook 2.5 hours made tolerable by a beer loadup at a petrol station. The snow covered hills had hinted at howdamn cold it would be, but the 200 CDTfans were in good voice even whenSalamanca scored after 25 minutes. PabloSicilia came to the rescue with a quickheaded leveller while Luis Garcia teased uswith his ball juggling. Pablo popped up foranother header in the second half to earn awin, Kitoko looked good on his debut butgot sent off late in the game, Tapia broughton Melli and Juanlu to defend our lead.Leaving in joyous mood we wereinterrupted by some local nutters withflares and batons, but as reinforcementsjoined us they scarpered. After a quickcheck in we combined sight seeing withdrinking, Salamanca is a beautifulstudent city, we watched La Liga in a poshfirst floor bar overlooking Plaza Major.
