CASING
The Series 4600F, drawing on over 100 years o pump
design expertise and leadership, is the state o the art
in Horizontal Split Case pumps. It meets or exceeds the
requirements onfpa
and testing laboratories involved infire protection such as ul, ulc & fm.
The amily o pumps capitalize on the Tilted Parting
concept to minimize turbulence at the eye o the impeller
by its straight laminar approach, thus maximizing
ef ciency. The amily was designed with commonality
o parts, low installation cost, and ease o maintenance
objectives.The pumps compact sizes are ideally suited or space
saving packages and retrofit applications.

Supply and install as indicated on plans one (1) ire pump systemconsisting o:
1. fire pump
One Armstrong, Series 4600f, Size ________________ double suction
horizontal split case ire pump listed by [Underwriters Laboratories o
Canada (ulc)], [Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (ul)] and/or [approved
by Factory Mutual (fm)] having a capacity o _____ ___ ___ ___ _ usgpm
or a pressure boost o ____ ___ ___ ___ __ psig. Suction pressure
______________ psig.
Pump casing shall be o cast iron, axially split with a 15 angle that will mini-
mize npsh requirements and dimensions. Lower hal shall contain suction
and discharge nozzles. Suction and discharge connections shall be on the
same elevation. Top hal and rotating element shall be removable without
disturbing the piping. Casing shall be itted with replaceable bronze wear-
ing rings. Impeller shall be bronze, double suction, enclosed type ully bal-
anced and keyed to an alloy steel shat. Shat shall to be itted with replace-
able bronze sleeves. Shat shall be mounted in two dust tight deep grooves,
sealed, and permanently greased ball bearings.
Bearings shall be mounted in cartridge type housing so that they shall be
replaceable without opening pump casing. Bearings shall be easily remov-
able by rotating bearing removal nut. No special tools or bearing puller are
to be necessary.
Each stuffing box shall be fitted with a three piece bronze gland. Stuffing
box shall be fitted with a stuffing box extension to facilitate the packing
rings removal. Packing rings shall be removable without disturbing wetted
parts or the pump bearings. Water seal recirculation lines made from non-
corroding material shall be piped to pump volute.
2. electric motor
The ire pump shall be directly coupled through lexible coupling to a
horizontal electric motor with a maximum hp o__________ _ at
__________rpm, _________ volt , _______ phase _________ cycle.
Motor shall be ul Listed or ire pump service, open drip proo, standard
eiciency with 1.15 service actor.
3. minimum fittings
The pump shall be supplied with the ollowing accessories:
One (1) combination suction gauge 3" dial type with " cock and
lever handle.
One (1) discharge gauge, 3" dial type, with " cock and lever handle.
One (1) air release valve.
One (1) casing pressure relie valve.
4. other accessories
Pump shall be itted with one (1) eccentric suction reducer and one (1)
concentric discharge increaser, as required (by mechanical contractor) to
it nfpa 20 recommended piping sizes.
One (1) outside test header shall be supplied with one (1) set o ____ x 2"
hose valves with caps and chains.
5. fire pump controller
The ire pump controller shall be speciically approved or ire pump
service by [ulc], [ul] and/or [fm]. The controller shall be o the
combined manual and automatic stop, ___________starting method,
Model __________ as manuactured by_________. All equipment shall be
enclosed in an approved drip proo enclosure. The control equipment shall
be completely assembled, wired and tested at point o manuacture priorto shipment.
Circuit breaker shall have an interrupting capacity o ____ __ __ _kAmps or
a withstand rating o ____ ___ ___ __ kAmps rms.
Water pressure switch shall be suitable or _________ psi
working pressure.
5a. fire pump controller and automatic transfer
switch combination
The automatic transer switch controller combination shall be approved
by [ul], [ulc] and/or [fm], Model ____ ___ ___ ___ ___ as manuactured
by________________. The automatic transer switch and the pump
controller shall each be mounted in separate enclosures, mechanically
attached to orm one unit and provide or protected interlock wiring.
The automatic transer switch shall be capable o automatic power transer
rom normal to alternate______________ [generator] / [second utility]
emergency power source in case o normal supply ailure and automatically
re-transer ater restoration o normal power conditions.
6. jockey pump
The jockey pump shall be manuactured by _____________ Model

7. jockey pump controller
The jockey pump shall be controlled by an automatic jockey pump

voltage starter.
8. mounting and testing
The ire pump shall be suitable or a maximum working pressure o
__________. The ire pump shall be hydrostatically tested at twice the
maximum working pressure or at least 5 minutes. The ire pump shall be
perormance tested at rated speed. The ire pump shall urnish not less
than 150% o rated capacity at a pressure not less than 65% o rated head.
The shut-o total head o the ire pump should not exceed 140% o total
rated head. A certiied test curve, indicating the low, head, power and
eiciency shall be supplied or the ield acceptance test. The ire pump
and electric motor shall be base mounted and aligned at the pump manu-
acturers actory. Final alignment shall be made ater installation on site
