Our 2020 AIP has 3 key areas of focus; Embed Professional Learning Community processes for planning, assessment and instruction- This is

about continuing the work across the school with how teachers use data, plan for individual students and cohorts, collaborate in planning team and take an ‘inquiry’ approach to ensure students reach personal learning goals.

Engage in Peer Observations of practice with a focus on Differentiation and Feedback (HITS: High Im-pact Teaching Strategies). This is about teachers seeking feedback on the way they teach in the classroom, from staff and students, seeking ways to improve their teaching practice, and ensuring individual student needs are met in daily classroom teaching.

Embed Tier 1 and implement Tier 2 components of SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour). This is about continuing to grow and improve on the practices we use for establishing strong, positive stu-dent behaviours at school, embedding values and our Code of Conduct, and responding to major and minor behaviours consistently across the school.

The Annual Implementation plan for 2020 will be available on the School Website, once it is approved by DET.

Shade Sails- Year 3&4 playground Our new shade sails over the year 3&4 playground have now been installed and look amazing! We hope the new colours and extra shade will be ap-preciated by everyone!

Parent Association & Parent Rep –final meeting 2019 Our Parent Association and Parent Representative group met on Tuesday and presented the Fundraising Event Plan for 2020. The plan involves a lot of traditional Albany Rise events, and some new events for 2020. We hope that the Parent Association will continue to have a lot of support from our community to en-sure these planned events have high levels of community support. A huge thankyou to Mel Towers who has led the planning and organising of this group for all of 2019. It has been a great team effort, with over $23,000 raised to support the school over the past year. Well done to everyone involved in Parents’ Association and to all the families who come and support our school events. .

2020 Foundation Next week our 2020 Foundation group will attend their orientation day at Albany Rise. I am very much look-ing forward to seeing this new group of students enjoy their first ‘official’ day as part of our school communi-ty. Congratulations to our Foundation teachers and Year 5 students (soon to be buddies) for their careful planning and support through the Foundation transition program.

Inclusive learning Jim Asimakopoulos OAM visited our school during the week to talk to students in years 3-6 about leader-ship and having a positive ‘Bounce Back’ attitude. Jim has been visiting our school since 2013, and has been working with Education Department to promote inclusive education for over 30 years. His story can be accessed online: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/learningneeds/Pages/abilities.aspx

Social Media and School

Using Instagram- Information Parents May find Useful.

Parents and community members have the facility to report students younger than 13 who are using Insta-gram. There is a website that guides users on how to report through Instagram:

RESPECT RESILIENCE RESPONSIBILITY

Page 3: ARPS NEWS - albanyrise-ps.vic.edu.au

https://www.esafety.gov.au/esafety-information/games-apps-and-social-networking/instagram Children who are younger than 13 are unable to use Instagram (unless fraudulent personal details are pro-vided online, such as an incorrect date of birth).

Any personal that puts defamatory or libellous information online can be reported to the police.

Illegal activity on social media

Where there is a reasonable belief that illegal activity may have occurred, schools may report the suspected activity to the police. Disrespectful, harassing, threatening or bullying behaviour may be considered a crimi-nal offence under State and/or Federal law.

Instagram is considered by experts, such as Susan McLean, as one of the most concerning apps for online predators of young children.

Students at Albany Rise Primary School are required to sign an Acceptable Use agreement in relation to a range of Cyber Safety measures for school use of electronic devices. We would hope that students from the school who have posted online outside school hours, ensure that any posts seen by the school community uphold the standards that the school expects at all times.

Parents who are unclear of the legal, social and long term concerns relating to underage use of certain so-cial networking sites are welcome to contact the school for further advice and information.

Enrolments for 2021 Enrolments for 2021 are now open for parents who have siblings at the school or who live within our school zone. Enrolment forms can be collected from the office. Late enrolments for 2020 will be accepted for any students who live within the school zone.

Parents can check if they are inside our school zone via this link: https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/
