The Night before Christmas

by Sister St. Thomas B.N.D.deN

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town. St. Joseph was searching, walking up road and down.

Our Lady was waiting, so meek and so mild, While Joseph was seeking a place for the child;

The children were nestled, each snug in their beds, The grownups wouldn’t bother, there’s no room they said;

When even the innkeeper sent them away. Joseph was wondering, where they would stay;

He thought of the caves in the side of the hills, Let’s go there said Mary, it is silent and still;

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow, Made pathways of light for their feet to go;

And there in a cave, in a cradle of hay, Our Savior was born on that first Christmas Day!

The Father was watching in heaven above, He sent for His angels, His couriers of love;

More rapid than eagles God’s bright angels came; Rejoicing and eager as each heard his name;

Come Power, Come Cherubs, Come Virtues, Come Raphael Come Thrones and Dominions, come Michael and Gabriel;

Now fly to the Earth, where my poor people live, Announce the glad tiding my Son comes to give;

The shepherds were watching their flocks on this night, And saw in the heavens an unearthly light;

The Angels assured them, they’d nothing to fear, It’s Christmas they said, the Savior is here!

They hastened to find Him, and stood at the door, Till Mary invited them in to adore;

He was swaddled in bands from His head to His feet, Never did the Shepherds see a baby so sweet!

He spoke not a word, but the shepherds all knew, He was telling them secrets, and blessing them too;

Then softly they left Him, the Babe in the hay, And rejoiced with great joy on that first Christmas Day;

Mary heard them exclaim as they walked up the hill, Glory to God in the Highest, Peace to men of good will!

On behalf of Father Kramer, Father Hunt and the staff we would like to wish you and your loved ones a Blessed and Peaceful Christmas Season!

Happy Birthday Jesus Cake Family traditions are so important for children,

especially when they can incorporate faith, family, food & fun! Christmas is our Savior’s birth and most of us celebrate our birthdays with cake. So why not

celebrate Jesus’ that way as well while incorporating a little teaching about Him and all He does for us.

1. Make it round — like the never-ending circle of His love for all of us. 2. Make it chocolate — like the darkness our sins bring to us & others. 3. Make it covered with white frosting — like His purity covering our weakness. 4. Top it with a yellow star & add an angel —bearer of the first glad tidings. 5. Put 12 red candles on top — like the 12 months of the year that Christ is our light; red for the blood He willingly shed for us. 6. Encircle this loving cake with evergreens — the symbol of everlasting life.

The “Happy Birthday Jesus” Cake is a simple & fun tradition for Christmas day to keep everything

centered around what’s really going on.

Here's a Novel Idea: You are invited to join the SJB Book Club! If

you like to read & are interested in a fun, stimulating discussion group, please join us on

THE CROSS AND THE LIGHT is coming to St. John Bosco. Thurs., 3/8:10 AM and 7PM,

Fri., 3/9:10 AM & 7 PM, and Sat., 3/10: 1 PM and 7PM! It’s not just a show; it is an intentional encounter event.

Religious inspiration comes in many forms. Kelly Garver Nieto’s hit her like a ton of Babylon bricks while she was

attending her first-ever Good Friday service in 2000. It was while praying the Stations of the Cross, which uses 14 sequential images to depict the crucifixion of Jesus,

that the former nonbeliever experienced what she calls a “life-changing vision.” “I looked at the altar and saw all

the details of this grand theatrical production,” the entertainer and former Miss Michigan remembers. “And I heard God say, ‘This is why you are here.’ I knew in

my soul that this would become my life’s mission.”

Encountering the Joy of the Gospel: The Cross and the Light! “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Christ.” So begins the first apostolic exhortation from our Holy Father Pope Francis, Evangelii gaudium (“The Joy of the Gospel”). Many in the press have said that this exhortation is the Mission Statement of Pope Francis’ pontificate, inviting all people to encounter Christ. ”I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them . . .” (no. 3) “It is impossible to persevere in a fervent evangelization unless we are convinced from personal experience that it is not the same thing to have known Jesus as not to have known him, not the same thing to walk with him as to walk blindly, not the same thing to hear his word as not to know it, and not the same thing to contemplate him, to worship him, to find our peace in him, as not to. (no. 266) “This,” our Holy Father tells us, “is why we evangelize.” And this is why we have scheduled The Cross and the Light to bring the joy of the Gospel to life at Saint John Bosco. Come and experience this life-changing encounter with Christ at one of the performances below!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On behalf of Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., I joyfully welcome The Cross and the Light to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Cross and the Light is a powerful, conversion-oriented play that brings to life the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ through music and video arts. I am grateful to St. John Bosco Parish in Hatboro, PA, for hosting this special

production during Lent on March 8, 9, and 10, 2018. Daytime and evening shows are available.

The Cross and the Light is a highly-acclaimed, theatrical and video immersion experience. It fulfills the fundamental mission of the Church by proclaiming the saving work of Jesus Christ and the power he has to change our lives. This particular play is so effective certainly because of its Hollywood-level quality of special effects, singing, and acting, but above all, because Jesus Christ is the center and heart of this event. The show promises to be a strong catalyst for conversion. I recommend The Cross and the Light wholeheartedly to the entire Archdiocese. Here are some suggested ways to participate:

• Attend a show as an outing for you and your family (Event is suitable for ages 5 and up)

• Make it a date night for you and your spouse

• Teachers and catechists, take your students to the play as class trip for Lent (Special student ticket rate of $10 for daytime shows)

• Christian Initiation leaders, invite your RCIA members, both sponsors and seekers, as an opportunity for deeper conversion into Christ along the journey to the Easter Vigil

• Youth ministers, bring your youth group as a way to discover Jesus and what he means for your life

• Young adult groups, make it your big Lenten activity for 2018

• Invite family members, friends or co-workers who do not yet know the love of God but who might just be open to attending a high-quality play

For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.sjbhatboro.org. I look forward to seeing you there! Yours in Christ, Meghan Cokeley Director
