Arrhythmias
Definition Cardiac dysrhythmia (also known as
arrhythmia) is a term for any of a large and heterogeneous group of conditions in which there is abnormal electrical activity in the heart. The heart beat may be too fast or too slow, and may be regular or irregular.
Normal Sinus Rhythm
Sinus Bradycardia Treatment :- Adminstration of Atropine
(An Anticholinergic drug) pacemaker therapy may require
Sinus Tachycardia Treatment :- Treat the underlying CauseMainly Beta adrenergic blockers (Metaprolol
atenolol ) are used to reduce the HR and decrease the myocardial oxygen consumptions
Premature atrial contraction
Treatment :- Depends on the patient symptoms Withdrawal of sources like caffeine, and Beta-
adrenergic Blockers may be used
Atrial Fibrillation Treatment :- Digoxin, Beta adrenergic blockers,
Calcium channel Blockers and antiarrythmic drug such as cordarone some time cardioversion also may be used
Junctional Arrhythmias Treatment :- Digoxin is Withheld in the absence of
digitalis. Beta adrenergic blockers, Calcium channel Blockers and antiarrythmic drug such as cordarone some time cardioversion also may be used
Atrial Flutter Treatment :- Cardioversion, Digoxin, Beta
adrenergic blockers, Calcium channel Blockers and antiarrythmic drug such as cordarone
First Degree A V Block Treatment :- There is no treatment for first degree
A V Block
Second Degree A V Block type I
Treatment :- Atropin e is used to increase the HR Temporary Pace maker may used, close observation
is very important
Second Degree A V Block type II
Treatment :- Both temporary and permanent pace maker are used depends upon the situation. Atropine and Dopamine can be used initially
Ventricular tachycardia Treatment :- Cordorone, pacemaker, defibrillation,
thrombolysis, angioplasty
Ventricular fibrillation Treatment :- CPR with ACLS measures, which
includes intubation, pacing, IV therapy, defibrillation,
Asystole Treatment :- CPR with ACLS measures, which
includes intubation, pacing, IV therapy, defibrillation,
