Robert Adams"Burning Oil Sludge, Boulder County, Colorado," 1974Gelatin silver print, 11 x 14 inches Robert Adams Adamss photographs capture the physical traces of human life: a garbage-strewn roadside, a clear-cut forest, a half-built house "Light is a physical thing that youre working with. Its also obviously metaphor. Its what youre working with to arrive at metaphors

Response to Burning Oil SludgeThe picture below is my response to burning oil sludge. This is a power plant at Howard university. It is a depiction of human activity and the result is air pollution .With the help of light, I was able to capture this image. According to Adam, we have to accept the obvious(pollution) and look for alternative to this problem.

Mary Heilmann

For every piece of Heilmanns workabstract paintings, ceramics, and furniture are incorporated. Her paintings spring from recollections and her imaginations to referencing music. Her paintings are like meditations or icons. She uses bright colors which depict her happy nature.

"Lovejoy," 2004Oil on canvas, 50 x 40 inches Mary Heilmann

Response to Heilmann by ConradHeilmanns use of abstraction and bright colors in her paintings are commendable. Her art work is usually free and flexible . for that reason, I drew red blood cells which have a biconcave shape. In addition to that I incorporated bright colors which would evoke joy in any viewer which is a common thing with Heilmann.

"Burn" (1998) Kara WalkerKaras work consists mainly of silhouette. This is an images that when you look at it, you would tell a story contradictory to someone elses view. One of her images that has the effect mentioned above is Burn. One may say this image is an image of a girl in flames while another persons perspective would be she is behind the flames.

"Burn," 1998Cut paper and adhesive on wall, 92 1/8 x 48 inchesCollection of Jerry and Katherine SpeyerCourtesySikkema Jenkins & Co., New York

Response to Burn by Conrad I wanted my work to present Karas idea of a silhouette. And so I had this Image which threw people off when they tried to explain what it was. This image was spray painted on wall. I often got responses like it looks like some kind of animal or it is hard to decipher what this is
