The Eucalyptus fibreTENCEL® is well-know for its outstanding physical characteristics – silky softness and luxurious drape, and with an excellent moisture absorbency and natu-rally hygienic. It has the Oeko-tex 100 certificate and even the EU flower.TENCEL® Lyocell, to give it its full name is the most environmentally friendly cellulosic fibre available today. It is produced exclusively from the wood pulp of Eucalyptus trees certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). The only chemical used in the TENCEL® manufacturing is the non-toxic solvent, amine oxide that allows closed-loop processing where up to 99% of the chemical is perpetually re-used. This minimises the impact on the environment and conserves both energy and water. The EU awarded this process the Environmental Award 2000 in the category “technology for sustainable developments”.
Oeko-tex 100 certificateConfidence in textiles – this has been the motto of the independent test institutes of the International Oeko-Tex Association since 1992, with their tests for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for textile products of all types which pose no risk whatsoever to health. The Oeko-Tex label indicates to interested end users the additional benefits of tested safety for skin-friendly clothing and other textiles. In this way, the test label provides animportant decision-making tool when purchasing textiles. Confidence in textiles – an international synonym for responsible textile production – from the raw material to the finished product on the shop shelves. For industry and retailers throughout the textile manufacturing chain just as well as for users of fashionable, functional, colourful textiles.
Pressure to quickly produce increasing quantities of cheap textiles has lead the clothing industry to allow some of the most unethical trade practices on the planet: worst examples include child labour, excessive working hours and unsafe & unhygienic working conditions. FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION (FWF) exists to promote fair labour conditions in the textile industry worldwide.
