ArtSouth has an illustrious history of stimulating economic recovery in economically insolvent areas. Weemerged in 2000 as the second enterprise of founder (the late) I. Stanley Levine who is credited forrevitalization of Lincoln Road into the arts and entertainment center of Miami Beach. Until our move intocentral Miami-Dade County, for thirteen years ArtSouth replicated that arts activism and revitalization workin remote downtown Homestead via our Second Saturdays, gallery exhibitions, concerts and theaterseasons.

Local Community Impact: Inspired by our founder’s achievements, ArtSouth will again fulfill a legendaryrole as a catalyst for economic transformation in South Miami Community Redevelopment Agency(SMCRA) area. Prior to ArtSouth’s presence in SMCRA, there were no permanent arts-related events, activities or educational programs. Through our South Miami Arts Cooperative (SMAC), we will fosterformerly-undeveloped connections/exchanges among residents and community leaders to unite andmaintain a clear cultural plan with activities for families to contribute and/or consume work of local artists asparticipant and/or audience. SMAC will increase circulation of commercial capital by attracting andgenerating job creation, supporting an inner-community economy so that neighbors will not have to lookelsewhere for entertainment. SMAC will revive SMCRA dormant community life, encourage dollars to re-circulate internally, engage people who lack access to the arts and/or uncover their own arts abilities.

ArtSouth is a 6-minute walk from the Metro Transit Rail System, thereby allowing easy outside accessibilityto attend events and educational programs. Regularly scheduled SMAC activities will entice outercommunity interest and attract “cultural tourists” dollars to the area via local, state, national andinternational attendance. In collaboration with Global Ties Miami, a U.S. Department of State’s InternationalVisitor Leadership Program, we will continue our cultural exchange tours for global leaders in business, government and civil society.

Internal Labor Support: ArtSouth’s brings a workforce to SMCRA by employing 40 full and part-time areaemployees annually which includes: clerical staff, directors, marketing/social media personnel, youth campcounselors, teachers and artists. We make use of nearby University of Miami student work-pool as well.

Educational Impact: ArtSouth’s educational outreach extends from the deep south in Homestead 40-miles north to Overtown. In addition to bringing programs to youth with special needs, we partner withalready-established after-school programs by integrating formally non-existing multidisciplinary arts classesinto their after-school schedules. Our year-round educational programs employ local Miami artists to teachtheir craft at outreach sites in under-represented neighborhoods throughout Miami-Dade County.

Outreach Activities: ArtSouth reaches out into remote communities and facilities that lack culturalexposure. We are active members of numerous chambers of commerce, serving on committees toculturally enhance other agencies programmatic agendas. In addition to hosting our own schedule ofcultural events, exhibitions, concerts, drumming circles, painting workshops, we are a notable addition tocounty-wide cultural events. Sign-in logs, testimonials, community surveys reflect hundreds of satisfiedparticipants at our outreach events.
