"As the Father sent me, so am I sending you."

Today we celebrate the birthday of the Church. We celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles!

As a result of his coming, the Apostles left the upper room where they hiding - afraid, uncertain, fearful for their lives -and set out courageously to preach the Gospel to the World. They were given a mandate - and what a mandate it was - to proclaim God's love and mercy, accompanied in this mission by the Holy Spirit.

On this the Feast of Pentecost, the power of the Holy Spirit is available to us too. May we have the courage to ask for it, to receive it and to follow Christ's mandate:

Lord Jesus, through the gift of the Holy Spirit strengthen us when we are weak and give us courage when we are afraid.

Guide us in times of doubt, and console us in times of sorrow.

Bind us together as communities of faith, especially at this time, dedicated to living and spreading the Gospel by our words and actions.

May I wish you all a Happy Birthday and be assured of my prayers for you and your families at this time. Please pray for me too. Fr David

Berkhamsted food for Friends with Open Door—Sacred Heart parishioners have been working hard to help the most vulnerable in our town during lock-down, by serving a hot meal 3 times a week. To date over 1000 meals have been served. If you know someone who is in need of a hot meal, please con-tact Joan Fisher: [email protected]. Sunday Liturgy & Family Prayer Resource— The Mass readings for this Pente-cost Sunday, and the complimentary family prayer resource are available to view/print from our website: www.berkotring.org.uk. I do encourage you to use these during Mass. Prayers for those who have recently died—Please pray for: Tony Waters, Ag-nes Kelly, Valerie Warburton, Adeline Lewis, Barbara Carpenter, John Hig-ginson, Henryk Wieksza, Christina Toole, Winnie Morrison, Mark Ram, Audrey Holden, Patrick Harte, Michael Connell, Teresa Maguire. May they Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory on the last day. Amen. Tring Foodbank Contributions—The foodbank in Tring is experiencing very high demand at this time. The foodbank is open every weekday from 10am to 12 noon at St. Peter and St Paul Church and is in need of food contributions. Food needs to be dried or tinned and well within date, the Foodbank cannot store fresh food or any food that needs to be refrigerated. Personal hygiene items are also welcome.

Spiritual Communion—At the time during mass when we would usually re-ceive communion, let us pray this Prayer of Spiritual Communion together: My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Going Into Hospital? - If you are going into hospital do ask to see a Catholic Chaplain. Please call the Chaplaincy office on 01923 217 994 for Watford and St Albans or 01296 316675 for Stoke Mandeville.
