SUNDAY COLLECTION

May 10, 2015

Thank you!!

St. Charles Borromeo Church May 17, 2015

Today we mark the Solemnity of the

Ascension. Some years ago, the Catholic Bishops of

the Ohio Province transferred the celebration of the

Ascension from Thursday to the nearest Sunday. This day reminds us that, just as Jesus sent his Apostles and disciples to proclaim

the Gospel long ago, Jesus also commissions us to bring the Good

News to this time and place.

On Holy Saturday, after participating in St Charles RCIA

process since September, six individuals were baptized/ received

into full communion with the Church, received First Eucharist,

and were confirmed. We welcome to the Catholic Faith and we

congratulate:

Adam Gecewich

Josh Jackiewiecz

David Dieball

Paul Lord

Sean Nicklos

Taylor Ruiz

Father Ryan Mann coordinated this year’s RCIA and will do

so again next year. If you, or someone you know, are interested in

joining the Catholic Faith, contact Father Ryan at 440-884-3030.

The 2015-2016 RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) will

assemble in September.

St Charles School Art Show kicks off this Sunday and

continues on Monday and Tuesday. Check out the great work on

display from our talented grade schoolers.

The Day School May Crowning is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 20, at 9:30am. Following that service, we will

take the Day School Communion Class photo and the Eighth

Grade Graduating Class group photo.

Congratulations to the St Charles School “Not Ready for

Prime Time” acting troupe for their spectacular presentation of

“James and the Giant Peach” at three performances last weekend.

The actors, actresses, technical crew, and musicians did a great

job. Swell job, Director Carey Perkins, ably assisted by Amy

Gerity and Amy Kwiatkowski.

Congratulations to the 27 St Charles students who won

scholarships from the Diocese of Cleveland for the upcoming school year; three of those were the prestigious Bishop’s

Scholarship. Nice work, teachers and students!

Thank you to St Charles Ladies Guild for sponsoring the

May Crowning scheduled for this Sunday afternoon, May 17, at

two o’clock in church. This service will offer a Living Rosary and

will conclude with Benediction featuring traditional hymns.

Refreshments will follow in the Corrigan Gym. All are invited.

The in-pew solicitation for the 2015 Catholic Charities

Campaign took place on two February weekends; both were

“blizzard days.” In order to give an opportunity to pledge to those

who may have missed the February appeal, we have been directed

to offer an in-pew Catholic Charities mention again this weekend.

If you have already pledged by mail or during the February

campaign, thank you for your patience and understanding. If you

have not already done so, please consider making a pledge to the

2015 Catholic Charities Campaign this weekend.

Catholic Charities In-pew Appeal This Weekend, May 16 & 17

The Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Cleveland ranks

among the largest in the nation. Generations of generous and

faithful diocesan Catholics have provided a safety net that cares

for the poorest and most needy among us. Catholic Charities

brings to life the corporal works of mercy. Daily, dozens of

local Catholic institutions feed the hungry, care for the sick, and

comfort the lonely.

Last February, throughout the Diocese, we conducted

the “in-pew” appeal for the 2015 support of Catholic Charities.

As you know, this was a particularly difficult winter. Both

weekends set aside for the Catholic Charities Appeal this year

were “blizzard Sundays.” Mass attendance was about one-half

the normal count. The response to the Charities appeal was

down about fifty percent from 2014.

Because so many depend upon Catholic Charities for

help, we have been asked to conduct one additional Appeal

Sunday; that Appeal is scheduled for this weekend, May 16/17.

If you already pledged by way of the February Appeal

or by mail, thank you for your generosity and understanding.

If you did not pledge in February due to the bad weather, please

consider making a pledge next weekend. This is the last you will

hear about the Catholic Charities in 2015.

Remember the words of a very good Catholic

layperson: “The one in need may be Christ indeed!”

AVILA HOLY HOUR The Avilas will meet in prayer on Thursday, May 21st at 8:00am

in the church chapel. Let us continue to pray for an increase in

religious vocations and for those men and women living in the

vowed and ordained way of life. For more information, call

Marilyn (440)886-1788.

SENIOR CITIZENS The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th in the

Lower Parish Hall. Doors open at 9:00am with lunch being

served at 11:00am. Dues are $5.00 per year. New members are

welcome. Call Jean Kozak, President (440)845-2107.

ATTENTION ALL 2015 GRADUATES BOTH

GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY

ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY

We are in the process of updating our annual

Guide Book & Directory for the Parish. This

book will be the Who, What, Where, When,

Why and How of our Congregation. The book

is being provided at no cost to our Church,

including the mailing to each family, and again is being

subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. If you

own or manage a business and would like to find out

about advertising in our book, please call the Parish Office

(440)884-3030.

Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that

92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book &

Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It "will pay" to

advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.
