Sam Neyer of Shepherd, Mich. is already confident in his career choice at age 13. In fact, the family busi-ness harnessed Sams interest when he was only a toddler. I want to be a farmer when I grow up, Sam said. I want to take my dads job and expand the farm like he did. Neyer Dairy Farms is a third generation farm with all three generations active in work. The Neyer family owns roughly 1,200 cattle over two locations and milk 1,000. Sams main job is to feed the baby cat-tle and to clean each stall. He

recently saved enough money to buy his own tractor and plow. I feel farming is one of the most important jobs in the world, he said. Sam is in the eighth at Sacred Heart Academy in Mount Pleasant. During the school year, he spends his weekends on the farm and works every day over the sum-

mer. He already looks ahead to attending college and Michigan State University to study agricultural science. Although his maturity and life is different from many other 13 year-olds, Sam is still a normal teenager. What makes him different, however, is that he already started his career and found his first love.

I feel farming is one of the most important jobs in the world.
