THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
a way to start the first two days of April!! The CNY ASHRAE Chapter hosted the first ever SmartStart Weekend for Mechanical Engineering students at the Syracuse University Center of Excellence and
the event couldn’t have been any better. I’d personally like to extend a very special thanks to Enrica Galasso (Student Activities Chair) and Matt Clark (Young Engineers in ASHRAE Chair) for spearheading this remarkable week-end and there is no doubt this event wouldn’t have happened had it not been for their extreme dedication and or-
ganization. We were honored to host not one, but two ASHRAE Society Distinguished Lecturers for this event as So-ciety Past-President David Underwood and his wife Jane joined us for the entire weekend (my wife Linda and I had the honor of joining them for dinner at the SmartStart Dinner in Armory Square) followed by Jorge Hernadez mes-
merizing the students during Day 2 of the program. Please read more about this incredible weekend in the following pages and Enrica and Matt will provide a brief summary at the April 12 Chapter Dinner Meeting.
Speaking of the April meeting, we have a packed agenda:
· Please help us welcome Mr. Bill Pearson of Special Pathogens Laboratory as he discusses ASHRAE Stand-ard 188 Legionella for the Main Program (1 PDH credit). This topical discussion is relevant for all who design, manage or maintain Healthcare and Higher Education facilities. · In addition, we’ll be honoring Mr. Chris Martin as this year’s recipient of the Member Recognition Award for his continued service to ASHRAE and our CNY Chapter. · The newly proposed Board of Governors and Officers for the 2017-2018 Chapter Year is noted in this newsletter and we welcome your comments. As is customary, the BoG and Officers Slate will be inducted at the final May 10th Chapter Dinner Meeting. · Please thank Geoff Sincavage and Johnson Controls Inc. as this month’s sponsors of the ever popular Social Happy Hour from 5:30 – 7:00pm. The beer is FREE and the conversation is too.
Key note: Given our heavy meeting agenda, we plan to forgo this month’s Technical Session presentation but will resume again at the final May 10th Chapter Dinner Meeting. Thank you as always and we look forward to you,.. “being in the room”.

CNY ASHRAE Chapter President

A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER
I'd like to thank our members for the continued support and involvement in our chapter. We are coming in-to the homestretch and want to finish the year financially strong. All of our accounts are currently in good standing, although we had some setbacks with our tax preparation services costing us more than previous years. Good news is taxes are filed and we have a good baseline and process moving ahead.
Our meetings at Dino are continuing to be profitable and I believe that our last few meetings plus our annual golf outing and clam bake will prove to be a huge success for the chapter.
I hope to continue to see everyone at the meetings as well as some new faces.
Geoff Sincavage, Chapter Treasurer

MEMBER RECOGNITION AWARD
Please join us at the April 12th Chapter Dinner Meeting as we
honor Chris Martin as this year’s recipient of the Member
Recognition Award. Chris has been a long standing, active
member and we thank him for his years of continued service in
ASHRAE.
OCM BOCES recently featured the Hampden
Refrigeration Test Board on the front cover of
their newest Adult Education Class mailer. The
$19,000.00 test board was donated by the CNY
ASHRAE Chapter last year as part of a
Community Enrichment effort and HVAC/R
Instructor Joe Miuccio offered a “live”
demonstration during December’s Chapter
Program Meeting.
Please join the ASHRAE CNY Chapter for a free webcast Take Control: Using Analytics to Drive Building Performance
April 20, 2017 1:00 – 4:00 PM EDT.
The webcast is being hosted by Trane Commercial Systems at 15 Technology Place in East Syracuse. This webcast will feature industry experts who will define the importance of, and why we should strive for, better
building operations through improved controls and analytics. Viewers will be able to describe key elements of controls and analytics for building operations, and identify steps required to deploy analytics in building projects,
including commissioning. This program will quantify how applying best practice controls improve building performance, and will recognize the value of analytics in building operations to achieve a reduced cost and increased performance. Attendees may be awarded three (3) Professional Development Hours (PDHs). The webcast program
has also been approved for three (3) AIA HSW Learning Units (LU/HSW) and three (3) GBCI Continuing Education Hours (CEs).

O ur last meeting was exciting and those members present continue to enjoy the benefits of our great
organization by expanding their knowledge through the main programs, experience the social relationships
and networking opportunities and keeping up with all the news in our community.
The meeting was held at Dinosaur BBQ and we had both, a technical session on Check Valves presented by Gary
Schommer from Milwaukee Valve and a main program on Transport Refrigeration presented by Ciara Poolman of
Carrier UTC. For those in attendance received 2 PDH credits. Both presentations were informative and interesting
and presented by two great professionals.
We also recognized past presidents that were in attendance. We thank Carrier UTC and Milwaukee Valve for
sponsoring the meeting.
