Find out as much as you can about the person you’re connecting with, their situation, their needs, etc. Ask questions. Ask more questions.

Explore

1) Determine what you want to know; and

2) Figure out the best way(s) to learn what you want to know



TIPS



1. Be as clear as possible



2. Be genuine



3. Remember that context is key



4. Ask the right people



5. Ask open-ended questions



6. Be willing to explore possibilities you hadn’t considered



7. Listen for the answer that’s given, not the answer you want or expect



8. When you reflect on a response, ask yourself the following questions:

Is this what I expected to hear or not? How does this differ from my expectations? What

does that tell me about my expectations? What can I learn from this response?

How does this response inform my next steps?



9. Remember that every exploration interaction as a learning opportunity for both you and the person you’re asking.
