• Pro and Cons in Environmental Issues Involving Two groups. Each group must prepare argumentations for pro (supporting) or con (opposing). The other ten groups will act as the jury

• Each group should appoint the speaker of the group and a secretary

• Each group will present their group argumentation in turn (using power point)

• When one group is presenting their argumentation, the other group should decide what the point(s) to counter (silently written communication given to the speaker of the group) attack the problem, not the person

• There will be a moderator for the debate that will be appointed before hand

• After 2 rounds, the audience will have time to ask questions.

• At the end, audience should decide which group can present more convincing/better arguments votes

Debate #1: Group 9 (Pro) Group 7 (Con)

• The Controversial Issue of Low Cost Green Car in Indonesia– LCGC has been a controversial issue in Indonesia,

especially in Jakarta. (http://politik.kompasiana.com/2013/09/28/mengeroyok-jokowi-dengan-lcgc-595758.html). Is LCGC really environmentally friendly?

• The controversy of Using Bio-fuels for Replacing the Fossil Fuels– Kelapa Sawit Oil has been promoted to be used as

bio-fuels (which is environmentally friendly), replacing the fossil fuels (petroleum). In order to make the fuel, some of the forest trees must be cut and be replaced with Kelapa Sawit.

– A big corporation would like to develop Kepala Sawit Oil. A proposal has been submitted and the decision should be made. Should the proposal be accepted or rejected?

• The Controversy of the Use of Biodegradable Plastic made from Tapioca Starch– Tapioca Starch is made from cassava which is one

of the food source for human being.– With the world population that increase

significantly in the years to come and need more food source, will you or will you not support the building of Bio-degradable plastic made from Tapioca Starch?

• The Use of Fertilizer for Crop Production– Fertilizer has been known for increasing crop

production, although some said that it will create dependency upon its usage.

– The Indonesian government would like to build more fertilizer manufacturers for the next 5 years. Should we support or oppose the policy?

• The controversy of 100% sales tax increase for Motor Vehicles– Suppose there is a bill proposed by the

Indonesian People’s Representatives (DPR-RI) that will increase the motor vehicles sales tax by 100% to reduce the number of motor vehicles such that it will reduce the air pollution level as demanded in Kyoto Protocol.

– Will you support or oppose this bill?

• The Controversy of the Building of Nuclear Power Plant for Future Energy Source– Nuclear energy may be the answer for future

energy needs because it can produce huge amount of energy, although there have been some environmental issues that relates to its application.

– Suppose a Nuclear Power Plant is to be built in West Java, Indonesia!

– Will you support or oppose the idea?
