The next General Meeting will be the last one at the Primary School Hi there. First thing this month is to warn members that we have a petty thief amongst us. I have been told a switch harness, a lipo battery pack and a transmitter have gone missing from the shed over the last month. This disappoints me greatly, as we operate on a great deal of trust in the club, and to think a member is not trustworthy undermines what the club is about. We have a “Free Table”, this stuff was not on the free table, and there for not up for grabs. There is a suspect, and if the stuff is returned to the shed, no more will be said. We have done the Bunnings BBQ, and made some money for the club, and had a bit of fun doing it. We owe those that helped on the day a big thank you, as you will see, the club will need to spend some money soon on the driveway, and its nice for it not to have to come out of members pockets…. Thanks Guys We still have not got the water connected, I reckon we have the worlds most unreliable plumber on the job , Max must have had 5 or 6 appointments with him, and has been stood up each time. Max is working on it, he has a bit of “Fox Terries” in him, so I’m sure we will have town water soon. Which brings me to the road in…. it’s a disaster, the surface has become soft, possibly with water getting under it as a result of the trenches for the power and water. Graham Sullivan is probably going to come to the rescue, having access to a tractor that can dig, shovel, and in Grahams hands, remove some soggy soil, and replace it with some other topping that will become hard and stabilize the ground, allowing some more roadbase to be added. We will be required to buy the topping and having it there when Graham requires it. At this stage, we have no idea of cost, but you can be assured we will be spending only what is required. We will also finish the drainage pit, and that should keep the area around the gates and pits a lot drier during heavy rain. I think we will require some man power when this happens, so expect a e-mail to advise of the date. Working with Wood Show. We have an opportunity to build an electric glider at this show, all we need is 2 or 3 members to glue sticks together as a demo. It’s a proper kit from a few years ago, so will be an easy build, we just need bods. The weekend is October 19 and 20. THE OCTOBER MEETING…. The last one at GWPS, and also BUY, SELL and SWAP…. You know, bring your old stuff along, and take someone elses old stuff home ! Our November and December meetings will be twilight meetings at the field, and will feature more Foamy Fun with Radians and the like. And don’t forget. Aerotow now the second Sat each month, and the Aerobatic Champs at Hollowback this Sunday (14th) Cheers Col

Minutes of the VARMS Club Inc general meeting held on the 14th September 2012 at the GWPS hall High Street Road Glen Waverley. Apologies: G Salisbury, R Stevenson, G. Moore, D. Check club website for other events coming up in October Tim Morland spoke briefly of the last aero tow day about the weather conditions and the array of scale models. Colin C advised that Aero towing events were to be moved to the 2cd Saturday in the months due to up coming commitments Garry Mac gave a rundown on the Cobram long weekend in November that had been arranged and he indicated a set fee per member for the weekend would be required by that club for those intending to participate. General discussion followed with various anecdotes from previous times there. Vice Presidents Report: Max drew attention to the Bunnings Day scheduled for October at their Vermont South store calling for volunteers for a roster to man the stall. Monies raised from the day would go to field improvements, etc. Presidents Report: Colin advised that the power was now connected and took the opportunity to thank Max McCullock for the sign writing on the fridge. He also went on to say that the stock in the fridge was for members use and hoped that if everyone did the right thing that the club could return a small profit from items sold. He also took the opportunity to thank Anthony for his work in getting the charging station up and running. Continuing on he thanked Ray Douma for the new tables that he had supplied free to the club and called for a volunteer to paint the steel work Barry de Kyper said he would be available to do that Job. Thank you Barry Unfortunately the plumber connecting the water supply had been given the wrong connection point, leading to some misunderstanding as to who was responsible for this error Colin apologised to Phil Eagle for any inference that he may have been that person. Roadwork around clubhouse to be commenced when promised supply of road base material becomes available. Club has purchased a grader blade to fit the tractor to utilise in levelling this product. Colin expressed his opinion on some activities in the Sporting precinct (motor cyclists) he stated that these activities were not the members concern and that it was up to Knox council to intervene in these matters

The Keyboard

Your frequency key should have your full name written clearly on it so that you can be easily recognised and contacted in case of a frequency clash. Mobile phone number on the key is a good idea too, in case you have departed and left your key in the board thus stopping someone else using that frequency. Members using 2.4 GHz sets should still insert a standard key in the appropriate section of the keyboard.

Aspectivity, October 2012 6

Hi all, and welcome to the embarrassingly small October edition of Aspectivity.

The IT gremlins have struck. I have a USB stick with all my reference materials and Aspectivity ‘stuff’ on it. My day job have installed this wonderful security system for portable devices and I had no choice but to install it so I can do some VARMS related activities during my breaks. I keep all the original articles and photos on this and it has served me well for years. This week my work computer says the stick has the 20 Gb of data on it, but the whizz-bang security system fails to read it. My home PC says the drive contains no files.

All my ready to publish articles are on there…… Can I ask that those who have sent me articles that have not been published please resend?

So I’ll fill this page with some Blanik updates:

Front cockpit

Rear cockpit

That’s all until next time

VARMS (Inc.) was formed in 1968 to get together aero-modelers who were interested in building and flying radio controlled gliders. Members fly at many places, but have a home field on High Street Road, Wantirna South (Melways Map 72, C1), where training classes are free to all and are held on Sunday mornings, generally on a fortnightly basis. Exact dates and times are posted on the filed entrance gate.

VARMS Training is kindly sponsored by Hyperion Australian.

VARMS organizes regular competitions in both Slope and Thermal Soaring, for many kinds of radio controlled gliders, ranging from fun-fly models to competition models and scale replicas.

General Meetings are held on the SECOND FRIDAY of each month (except January) – at the Glen Waverley Primary School Hall, in High Street Road, Glen Waverley (next to McDonalds on the corner of High Street Road and Springvale Road) Meetings start at 8:00 pm and visitors are welcome. Formalities are usually followed by lively discussions on matters of interest to all modelers and a cup of your favourite brew.
