Report
j location
The property consists of 2? claims located about l mile north of the C.N.R., Port Arthur - Fort Francis line, The claims can be readily reached by foot from Abiwin Station 2 miles to the east.
General Geology
The south western part of the claim group is mainly underlain by sedimentary rock types intruded by granite.
- 2 -
The sediments consist of graywacke and impure quartzites winch grade in places to highly metamorphosed schists and gneisses. Locally a hornblende biotite rich gneiss is present which may represent remnants of an altered basic intrusive.
Intruded along the bedding and foliation planes of the sediments occur small scattered sill-like bodies of gabbro and diorite. Many of these were only a few feet wide and too small to map on 400 scale. The largest of these basic intrusives measured 150 feet in width and had a length of 700 feet. This rock type over short dis tance graded rather sharply from an acid dioritic phase to a much more basic gabbro. Locally the gabbro showed an ophitic texture.
To the north of the sediments, volcanics are the predominant rock types with only minor amounts of sediments present. The volcanics range from mica and chlorite schists to fairly fresh looking andesitic greenstones and pillow lavas. Some minor tuffs and agglomerate rock types are also present. Angular granite fragments are locally present in the agglomerates.
In general, the volcanics appear to be much less altered arid metamorphosed than the sediments to the south.
The western part of the claim group is underlain by a light grey granite consisting chiefly of orthoclase and lesser amounts of quartz and muscovite. Grain size varies from an average of -*" to 2" in length. Locally, large peg matitic phases are present.
From this body of granite numerous tongues protrude and extend along the bedding and foliation planes of the sediments to the east.
The granite shows chilled borders in contact with sediments and frequently some gneissosity is present paralleling the trend of the adjacent rocks.
the
Structure
The sedimentary gneiss series are severely folded and foliated, strike easterly with vertical or near vertical dips. The volcanics also show an easterly strike with steep dips. Shearing is common along foliation planes. Two transverse faults striking 10C)- 20O west of north are present on the north east corner of the group. Two similar transverse
- 3 .
faults may also be present in the north west corner.
Economic
The main sulphide showing is located on the north shore of Ab Lake. Here a diorite gabbro mass 700 feet long and 156 feet wide intrudes the sediments. Along the south contact of the gabbro sedimentary contact a later narrow granite sill or dike 10 feet to 15 feet wide is present. Small lenses of sulphide mineralization fan out from the south gabbro contact with the sulphides becoming progressively less away from the contact. The sulphides consisting of pyrrhotite, pyrite and chalcopyrite are mainly disseminated with occasional narrow i"-l" stringers of massive sulphides. There are three sulphide l enses the largest is 70' long and 15' wide. The other two are B' to 10' long and /4 1 to 5' wide. In addition some scattered rust spots occur along the contact of the gabbro over a length of 600 feet. Elsewhere on the claim group the narrow gabbro diorite sills, the greenstones and the quartz veins contain occasional specks and weak disseminations of sulphides.

fi. Control :
T}ie base line shown on the attached, maps was used for control of the magnetic and electromagnetic survey. The station at O* 00 on the base line was used as the rofvronce station for the magnetic survey.
A small sulphide showing carrying some nickel values ocated on claim 3160 and is shown on map //'2. A er survey was conducted to determine if any larger
Ahas been loc magnetometer deposits of magnetic sulphides existed on the claim group
The electromagnetic gear was utilized to determine 'l f any magnetic highs were associated with cohductors.
The ground magnetometer survey failed to reveal any outstanding magnetic anomalies which would be considered as being caused by magnetic sulphides. Check::, with the ground i-). I-., equipment failed to reveal any conductive bodies.
A setup made directly over the showing did not indicate a conductor- and it is concluded from this that theshov.'lng proper has a very limited strike length.
uecommendat ions :
It is recommended that a detailed geological survey be carr j cd out this summer. This survey would permit an assessment of the area from a stand point of possible economic deposits of non magnetic sulphides.
