INTRODUCTION
In the earlier years, consumer shopping is based on dollar value, which shopping is
about acquiring needed goods a service. The new mode of thought in the shopping
environment is no longer sufficient to identify simple customer demand and try to satisfy
them. Modern shoppers buy things to reward themselves, to satisfy psychological needs or to
make themselves feel good. Modern shoppers buy things because they are expensive. They
buy things to make a statement, to show off their personality or to boost their self-esteem.
urchased item have become an affirmation of the psyche. !etailers need to change in order
to suit the modern shopping behaviour. It is no longer sufficed to see a shopper as a rational
creature making decisions. It is no longer enough to think that the shopper acts in a way that
makes sense from an economic of logical point of view "ooler, #$$%&. 'xperts believe ($ per
cent of the population, and possibly #$ per cent of women, are manic, compulsive shoppers.
Definition
)hopping itself is a form of self-expression. eople define themselves through their
shopping. *ow they shop, where they shop and what they buy serves the purposes of letting
people express their desires, their needs and personalities. )hopping gives people a sense of
accomplishment. +or many, it gives life a sense, a purpose, value and a function. The
successful shopper feels a sensation of satisfaction, execution and fulfilment. )hopping for
emotional and psychological reasons has become the new mantra of modern society. In ($,
braham Maslow invented a new way to look at how people live, how they order their
priorities and set their goals in life. Maslow suggested that life consists of five levels which
range from elementary where we satisfy the most basic needs, like food and shelter to where
we satisfy our highest psychological needs, like those for inner emotional fulfilment. Maslow
Theory of /eeds suggested that higher needs can only be fulfilled once the lower needs are
met "ooler, #$$%&. ccording to ooler "#$$%&, he also argued that when it comes to
shopping, our lower level needs have being met and that were shopping on a higher plane,
where a higher level of needs is being satisfied. To aid the decision making, a brand name
provides a shorthand device or means of simplifications for their product decisions "0eller,

CONCLUSION
The aim of the study was to answer to the following research question5
(. 8o they like to shopping.
#. ;hy they like to shop for luxury item.
%. 9etween men and women, who like to shop the most.
. *ow do they adapt to recent economic issue to continue shopping.
The purpose was to research shopaholic behaviour among people in Malaysia between the
ages #$-$. The aim was to analyse who like to shop the most between men and women and
also in directly between the younger and older people who love to shop the most. This
approach was chosen due to the fact that not all consumer is shopaholism.
To conclude, not all people like to shopping because of the different between work and ages.
The consumer buying behaviour research suggests that young generation love to shop for
luxury goods then old people because they does not have any responsibility such as family
that they have to carry. ?lder people has a huge responsibility that they have to carry and they
put their family first before everything and they shop for necessities only.
The consumer buying behaviour research suggests quality, price, aesthetics, rarity,
extraordinarity, and symbolism are all important features in the purchase decision of luxury
goods. 9uying experience is identified almost equally important as the product itself. The
survey results support the importance of quality, aesthetics and price. The results additionally
concur with characteristics such as status, rarity and buying experience as being somewhat
important, hence being central in relation to luxury goods.
9etween men and women, women has higher possibility to become shopaholic because after
the shopping trip they will feel better and not regretting their shopping. ?verall, products
purchased played an important role in alleviating their mood initially. +or example, window
displays suggesting fantasy can attract shoppers who seek escape from reality. lso, to help

consumers feel activated, retailers can provide various educational experiences. +or instance,
an apparel retailer could provide a flower show in spring to entertain and educate shoppers.
It has been rather a challenging year for the Malaysian economy. olitical disruptions and
economic shocks have rocked the nation. >onsumer buying behaviour chages over time
because of this. To adapt with sudden changes of the economic, the housewife not 4ust stay at
home but they start to do business there. They can save money 4ust doing online business at
home like selling clothe, dessert and many more.
In the nut shell, shopping addiction can be different from other addictions, in that the line
between normal behaviour and addictive behaviour may not only be a fine one, but hard to
spot. dditionally, the signs of addiction can even exist to a certain extent before a full on
addiction develops. +or example, a recent survey finds that over %$ percent of respondents
Falmost alwaysG or FfrequentlyG make some purchases 4ust because they are on sale. /early
#$ percent says after a shopping trip, they often return with items they didnBt need or plan for.
;hile they may seem small and insignificant, these little behaviors can be red flags for a
shopping addiction down the road. The irresistible desire to shop is known as compulsive
buying disorder or oniomania. ccording to a research by ;orld sychiatry, @.3 percent of
mericans are afflicted with the disorder, with women comprising 3$ percent of the total
number of affected individuals. >ommonly known as shopaholics, these people are overly
focused on buying and suffer from disruptive anxiety that can only be relieved by shopping.
eople with compulsive buying disorder are also likely to have other mental issues, including
mood disorders, anxiety and substance addictions.
