STUDENT START FILE

IL_Excel2010_UC_IC1b_FirstLastName_1.xlsx (Note: Download your personalized start file from www.cengage.com/sam2010)

Instructions

1. Open the file IL_Excel2010_UC_IC1b_FirstLastName_1.xlsx and save the file as IL_Excel2010_UC_IC1b_FirstLastName_2.xlsx before you move to the next step. Verify that your name appears in cell B4 of the Documentation sheet. (Note: Do not edit the Documentation sheet. If your name does not appear in cell B4, please download a new copy of the start file from the SAM Web site.)

2. Switch to the Sheet1 worksheet. Create a formula in cell E4 that calculates the value of the candy on hand based on the price paid per unit in cell B4 and the number of units on hand in cell D4. Copy the formula into the range E5:E14. Format the range E4:E14 as Currency with two decimal places.

3. In cell G4, use an absolute reference to the markup percentage in cell F2 to calculate the sale price of all the gummy bears on hand. (Hint: Multiply the on hand value by the markup percentage.) Copy the formula into the range G5:G14.

4. Modify the column labels in cells A3:E3, F1, and G3 by applying bold and changing the font color to standard Red. Italicize the candy items in cells A4:A14, change the font color to standard Purple. Apply Center alignment to F1:F2.

5. Increase the width of column A to 20.00 characters. Adjust the widths of columns C, D, E, F and G to be 14.00 characters.

6. Format the values in the Sale Price column as Accounting Number Format with two decimal places.

7. Format the values in the Price Paid Per Unit column as Currency Style with two decimal places.

8. Insert a row on line 17, directly below “Cool Kandy Carts - portable carts of candy” and enter the text Established 2006 in column A of the new row (A17). (Hint: Excel may format the new text with italic and purple font. If so, you should edit cell A17 to remove italic and use Automatic font color.)

9. Check the spelling of the entire worksheet and correct any spelling errors in the worksheet.

10. In the range D4:D14, use conditional formatting to apply Light Red Fill with Dark Red Text to items with a quantity of less than 275 on hand. In the same range (D4:D14), use conditional formatting to apply Green Fill with Dark Green Text to items with a quantity greater than 400.

11. In the range D4:D14, use the icon set consisting of green, yellow, and red flags to illustrate the relative differences between values in the range.

12. Add an outside border around the data in the Candy column (do not include the Candy column label).

13. Delete the row containing the 1223 Wakefield Drive address entry.

Your worksheet should look like the Final Figure below. Save your changes, close the workbook and exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM Web site to submit your completed project.
