Assistant Professor in the Research Unit of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Department of Biology University of Namur, Belgium Review date : February 1, 2013 Job date : September 1, 2013 Position description : This is a tenure-track position in the Research Unit of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, Department of Biology, at the assistant professor level. The granting of tenure will be possibly obtained after two years. The appointee will teach undergraduate courses in functional and adaptive biology and applied ecology. He will also have to teach specialized courses at the graduate level in the area of ecology and biodiversity of freshwater environments, water pollution and biological indicators of pollution. The appointee will be expected to achieve excellence through original research, consistent with the departmental goals, which encompass the broad field of aquatic ecology and evolutionary ecology. A priority will be given to field research at the levels of community and aquatic ecosystems. Some examples of eligible topics are : populations, communities and ecosystems ecology, host-parasites interactions, plants-animals interactions, conservation biology, invasive species biology. The appointee will be asked to participate in the departmental community through collaborative teaching, research, service and graduate mentoring. Criteria of selection : The position requires a PhD in biological sciences or a related field. Candidates must have an outstanding record of achievement in research and a vigorous research program in the area of aquatic ecology. The candidate must have an international experience at the post-doc level of at least 6 months (outside Belgium). He must also show a good knowledge of statistical methods used in ecology. The priority will be given to candidates that show a good match between his/her research expertise and the expected teaching (with a strong experience in graduate mentoring) as well as the originality of the proposed research project.
