Open the QR Reader

Hold the camera steady over the QR Code

Most readers will open the code content automatically

TIP: Always have more than one QR Code Reader, so that you can check you QR Codes on multiple apps so that you can check your QR code for scannability. You don't want the end user to be frustrated due to a bad code!

QR Codes can be helpful to link your participants to reading material!

Create your account first. (Please note you will need to sign up for a free account with scanlife.com in 2015 as they will be servicing Microsoft Tags at that time).

1. Click on "Create Tag". 2. Select URL, App Download, Free

Text, vCard, or Dialer 3. Enter required information to create

Use the bit.ly tool to redo your QR code. Compare them. Which is easier to scan?

ACTIVITY #4: Let's customize it: Save your QR Code as a graphic file on the desktop.

One color QR code:

Add it to a Microsoft Office file.

Right click on picture, select "format picture", fill, click on "solid color", and select desired color

Click on picture, select "recolor", select "set transparent color", then click on one of the black sections of the QR code. Example:

Multiple color QR code:

Open the file in Paint.

Resize QR code to make easier to work with.

Select colors and use Paintcan tool to change the black elements to color of your choice

When finished, test scannability. Example:

Rounding the edges:

Here’s how to make rounded-edge QR codes: **You must have Photoshop; there is a fee for this program***

1. Open QR code in Photoshop. 2. Go to channels and duplicate one of them. 3. Apply a guassian blur of 2 or 10 depending on how much curve you want. 4. Press CTRL+L to pull up levels and change the black to 130 and white to 150. 5. CTRL+click the layer to select the white areas. 6. Using the select menu, invert the selection to select the non-white areas. 7. Create a new layer and apply a black fill. 8. Hide the old layer and voila. Curvy corners.

ACTIVITY 9: Create a contact information QR code to put on your nametag.

When scanned, the QR Code reader program will ask the end user

whether they want to:

Add contact to their address book

Show the location on a map

Dial the phone number

• What will the code do to enhance the activity or information?

• Does the QR code enrich the activity with FUN as well as supplemental information?

• How will you support learners who need assistance?

• Finally, how will you measure if the activity has been successful (specifically, consider Kirkpatrick’s Levels 1-3)?
