Bird Watching

at St Andrew’s

On Monday, every class took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Armed with

their identification guides, pupils went outside to count the birds that landed within

the school's grounds. Then, on Thursday afternoon, Eco Club collated all the results

and they were submitted to the RSPB via their website. They observed a variety of

common garden birds including, robins, dunnocks, blackbirds and wood pigeons. So

next time you are out and about see if your child can identify the birds you

see. Here are some of the things the children said about the bird watching:

Gabriel Year 3 - ‘Oh look Miss Stephens, it's a wood pigeon, Oh wait I think that's the

same one as before.’ Tomas Year 3 - ‘Look in this tree, we have just found a birds

nest and it is full of eggs.’ Evie Year 3 - ‘Wow, look at all the birds hiding in the bush.’

Katy Year 1 - ‘I can see a little brown bird in the hedge.’ Jacob Year 1 - ‘I think that

bird might be a Dunnock.’ Fantastic ‘twitching’ St Andrew’s - Ornithologists in the

making!

Football Crazy! Last week, St Andrew’s participated in a football tournament at The University of Worcester,

organised by The West Bromwich Albion Foundation. Over 20 schools entered the

tournament from all over Worcestershire, and our pupils were in a league against St Joseph’s

in Droitwich, Oasis Warndon and St Barnabas in Worcester and Franche Primary School in

Kidderminster. Our pupils played extremely well against children who were all Year 6 pupils.

As an added bonus, everyone met Baggies Bird and even posed for a photograph for our

reading competition. Well done!

Brilliant Mathematicians!

As part of their topic this half-term,

Reception CM Seedling Class are learning

about food, and have been using their maths

knowledge to make a monster pizza with

toppings of bugs and plasters! They used

the interactive whiteboard to assemble the

pizza and then added two numbers together

to make a bigger number. The children

thoroughly enjoyed this lesson! Great

counting and addition Reception Class!

Cupcake Club Returns! We are offering a Valentine Special Cupcake Club run by Mrs Bayliss and Mrs Rock on

Tuesday 13th February 2018 from 3pm-4.30pm for Years 1 –5. The cost is £5 for the

session, and children will design and ice four Valentine Cupcakes which they will take

home in a box . Please contact the office by 3pm on Tuesday 6th February if you would

like to book a place. Places are limited to ten, so names will be drawn out of a hat if we

are oversubscribed and you will be notified on 7th February if your child has a place.

Fantastic Teamwork!

This week, Year 2DM Avalon Class worked fantastically together in RE. They read the Bible story ‘The Creation; Book of Genesis Chapter 1’ and all the children remembered what God did on each of the seven days. Then, using props, they created a timeline of the seven days of creation. Well done Avalon Class!

Year 3’s Inspire Workshop This week, Year 3 had a fantastic ‘English’ themed Inspire Workshop. Using Active Learn, the children and their partners read an electronic book to gather ‘coins’ which they then used to play an interactive game. Next, using plural possessive apostrophes and conjunctions, children wrote about three items that they would take back to the Stone Age with them if they were able to travel back in time! Following this activity, everyone went on a preposition hunt and used two pictures from the Stone Age to create a silly sentence. Finally, Miss Stephens caught a woolly Mammoth and the children had to write about what happened next! Many of the children said that poor Miss Stephens was eaten by the Mammoth! A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who attended.

It’s DISCO Time!

Our new Parents Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA)

will be holding a Disco on Thursday 15th February for all

children. The times are as follows:

Reception and KS1 children - 5pm - 5.45pm

KS2 children 6pm - 7pm

Tickets will be on sale for both events on Thursday 8th and

Friday 9th February before, and after school. Please note

that there will also be tickets on sale at WAC for parents to

purchase.

Reception and KS1 - Tickets are £2 and includes a bag of goodies, so no need for extra

money on the night of the disco.

KS2 - Tickets are £1 and refreshments and goodies will be on sale at the disco.

Reception’s Stay and Play

It was absolutely wonderful to see so

many adults again this week for

Reception’s Stay and Play. Dylan was

extremely excited to show everyone

his Grandad’s photographs of the

penguins. There was some lovely

teaching in the ‘classroom role play

area' and some beautiful models were

created out of Lego and construction

straws. Also, as you can see from the

photographs, children and their carers

made some amazing creations in the DT

area. We hope to see you all again next

week!
