1. General

1-1. Introduction

This handbook aims to give assistance to precisely and safelyinstall a JTI AT1-P Scanning Head (AT1-P). The handbook givesinformation which those who are authorized and who have beensufficiently trained require to install the AT1-P to the "TR1" RodMaker at a user plant. Installauon includes incorporation of theradioactive sources in the AT1-P, fitting and alignment of theAT1-P to the Rod Maker, and inspection to complete installadon.

The AT1-P is a density measurement device of sufficient safetyand excellent performance. To guarantee the performance andsafety, hogever, it is necessary to install it both precisely andsafety in accordance with this handbook.

1-2. Packing Form and Transportation

The AT1-P goes through various tests and inspection at JTI, andthen the radioactive sources are taken out of the AT1-P to bepacked and transported separately. The radioactive sources isinstalled inside their exclusive radioactive source container(W2066), which is then packed in a special sealed transportationbox. Thus, the installation in this handbook refers to the workafter accepting these two packs (the AT1-P Scanning Headassembly and the radioactive source special transportation box) atthe user plant.

|

Incidentally,' the external radiation is restricted to an extremely |low level for the radioactive source container, and no specialcares, except for cares against theft, are required during storagebefore the radioactive sources are incorporated in the AT1-P.

1-3, Personnel Safety

If installation of the AT1-P is carried out as described in thishandbook, there will be no radiation-oriented danger to thoseengaged in installation work and to any other persons. If any ,

physical damages occur on the radioactive sources, you shouldimmediately report it to JTI or to the local health authority. Ininstallation work, you should pay full attention to the princfole ofexternal exoosure orotection ALARA las low as is reasonably

3. Fitting and Alignment of the AT1-P to the Rod Maker !

3-1. Preparation for Work

(a) The AT1-P should be so installed to the Rod Maker that thecontinuous rod could smoothly and stably pass through the AT1-P(entrance guide, pass tube, exit guide). The AT1-P is providedwith the stainless steel test rod which maybe used in alignment. Also, two types of fixing bolts (TB08 - 2 pieces and W2059(tamper resistant screw) - 2 pieces) and a special exclusive toolare provided. 4. Inspection to Complete Installation

To complete precise and correct installation of the AT1-P. it isnecessary to perform the following inspection for confirmation.Record and keep the. inspection results in the form of InstallationInspection Report.

4-1. Measurement of External Radiation Level~

(a) With the Rod Maker in a normal operation (the sourceshutter opened with rod, the cut-off guard closed), measureexternal radiation level.

(b) Make sure that all the measurement results are either equalto or lower than the corresponding values in the radiationcontours Re-105 and RC-106 presented in Appendix A.

4-2. Inspection of Proper Operation of the Shutter and Indicator

(a) Using the dedicated key, open the door of the operation box-A on the Rod Maker front panel. Then, turn on the Manual Openkey-switch (momentary contact), using the dedicated key, andconfirm that the shutter is open only while the key-switch is On,through illumination of the red lamp on the indicator and themean weight meter on the front panel. (refer to Photograph-12)When the inspection is completed, pull out the dedicated keyfrom the key-switch, and lock the door of the operation box-A.

(b) Start up the Rod Maker. Confirm, through illumination of thered lamp on the indicator and the mean weight meter on thefront panel, that the shutter is open and the density signal isoutput only during operation (only while the continuous rod is

| passing through the AT1-P).

4-3. Measurement of AT1-P Body Temperature

(a) Measure the temperature of AT1-P body surface to confirm, that it is maintained at 45i5 degrees centigrade. Provided thatthis test should be performed at least one hour after the heaterpower supply is turned on. (It takes a while for the AT1-P bodytemperature to stabilize.)
