Wednesday 3/14/2012*Log onto Achieve3000- Read the Article for Wednesday, March 7, 2012- Complete Steps 1-5- Be sure to respond to the Reading Connections after

each paragraph (SUMMARIZE, GENERATE QUESTIONS, and SETTING THE PURPOSE). I WILL be checking to see if you’re keeping on task.

Grade Checks will be taking place during class.

Direct Instruction:

Tuesday 3/13-Vocabulary Power #1-In order to prepare you for 11th grade English, we will now focus on building your vocabulary which you will undoubtedly come across all your novels next year. Complete the handout and create 10 original sentence using the vocabulary words. *For those looking for more of a challenge, please refer to the reverse side of the handout for an opportunity to earn more points.

FRIDAY 3/16-CAHSEE Aftermath-(Reading Comprehension)By the time we meet again on Friday, you would have already completed the dreaded CAHSEE. We will reflect on the test, the type of questions you came across, and what we can do to help the next group of students who will take CAHSEE Prep next year.

Reading Comprehension Drills

The focus of this class will shift a bit now that the CAHSEE is over. Congratulations! You completed weeks of tutoring and Saturday classes to get this far. Now we look towards the SAT and will prepare ourselves for things to come.-Reading Comprehension Packet-Take notes during the PowerPoint presentation and answer the questions at the end.

Friday 3/16Timed WritingWe will start the clock and give you exactly 40 minutes to respond to an essay prompt. Afterwards, you will split up and conduct a peer editing session. Use the rubric sheet given to you on Tuesday to correct the essays.
