INTRODUCTION An automated teller machine (ATM), also known as

automatic banking machine (ABM), Automated Transaction Machine, bank machine, Cash Machine, or Cash point.

It is a computerized telecommunications device that provides the clients of a financial institution .

It is a self service banking machine attached to a host computer through a telephone network

plastic smart card with a chip, that contains a unique card number and some security information

Using an ATM, customers can access their bank accounts in order to make cash withdrawals, credit card cash advances, and check their account balances as well as purchase prepaid cell phone credit.

HISTORY LUTHER GEORGE SIMJIAN has first invented

ATM machine which was previously called as Bankograph.

It was installed in New York City in 1961 by the City Bank of New York.

The Bankograph was an automated envelope deposit machine (accepting coins, cash and cheques) and it did not have cash dispensing features.

A first cash dispensing device was used in Tokyo in 1966 .

In 1968 the networked ATM was pioneered in Dallas, Texas, by Donald Wetzel .

1969, Chemical Bank installed the first ATM in the U.S. at its branch in Rockville Centre, New York

The first ATMs were designed to dispense a fixed amount of cash when a user inserted a specially coded card.

Dial-up Line: ATM connects to the host through a normal phone line using a modem and atoll free number. or Through an ISP using a local access number.

number (PIN) and other information safe by using encryption software such as Triple DES (Data Encryption Standard).

Don't write down your PIN. If you must write it down, do not store it in your wallet or purse.

Make your PIN a series of letters or numbers that you can easily remember, but that cannot easily be associated with you personally.

Avoid using birth dates, initials, house numbers or your phone number.
