Audience

Who am I writing to?

What is an audience?

The audience are the people you are writing and want to relate to what you are writing.

In our case, you are writing to someone or a group of people to persuade them.

Why is this important?

It is important to know your audience because you want to write based on who they are.

Example: You would write more formally to a principal or employer than your best friend.

Also your material will matter depending on who the audience is.

Format

This is the different mediums you can write in, such as email, formal letter, text message, memo, essay, etc.

It is important to know the different aspects on specific formats, especially depending on the audience.

Together Forever

FORMAT AND AUDIENCE WORK TOGETHER.

You need to have both to have a good writing process and outcome.

It’s Your Turn!

Now you get to try!

Each student will get TWO notecrds: one with an audience (teachers, peers, parents, etc) and the other will have a format (letter, email, text message)

You will write something such as an issue or story (make it up!) based on both notecards
