Sanhedrin’s 2017 A Funeral for the World debut full-length was originally released independently, but reissued for

broader release by Cruz Del Sur Music in 2018. The Poisoner picks up where its predecessor left off, with the

Brooklyn trio (who consist of former Amber Asylum/Lost Goat bassist/vocalist Erica Stoltz, Black Anvil guitarist Jeremy

Sosville and drummer Nathan Honor) parlaying their vast array of influences into eight gripping, instantaneously

memorable numbers that rely melodic riff choices, the affecting vocals of Stoltz and touches of dark atmosphere.

Recorded with producer Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves, the members of Sanhedrin cite Marston’s

ability to pick up on the minute details of their sound as one of the reasons for their collaboration, which began on A

Funeral for the World. According to Sanhedrin, Marston, who usually tackles some of extreme metal’s most unique

and unrelenting acts, is on the same sonic wavelength as the band, capable of translating their musical vision without

sacrificing the raw and natural elements of their sound.

The Poisoner reflects the various sides of Sanhedrin, from classic, if not soaring jaunts, to tight, direct melds of gallop-

oriented metal to doom-channeled motifs, most notably, the album’s title track, which features a guest appearance by

Stoltz’s former Amber Asylum bandmate Kris Force on violin. This diversity is less of a jigsaw than it is the natural

melding of various ideas and styles, taking Sanhedrin to new places on each song. On The Poisoner, Sanhedrin

defies categorization, hereby entering into their own carved-out space where exploration and timeless songwriting are

paramount.

Produktinfo: This new band features three members of the classic DOKKEN lineup — George Lynch (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass), and Mick Brown (drums) — along with former LYNCH MOB and current WARRANT vocalist Robert Mason . The End: Machine’s sound developed through several songwriting sessions between Pilson and Lynch, but while lineup may have fans making assumptions about the sound of the band, things took a different turn. "The real truth of it is that George and I have this great songwriting partnership that's been going on for 35 years, and we love to work together,” says bassist and album producer Jeff Pilson. "When we bring Mick into play, we're at home — we're so comfortable as a rhythm section and we work together so well. And Mick is just a tremendous asset to any band — let's face it. So the three of us together do have that chemistry, whether we're doing DOKKEN, or we did a T&N record a few years ago, or whether we're doing THE END MACHINE." Pilson continued: "George and I wrote a bunch of this music, and then, when Robert Mason got involved, we realized, 'Wow! This is its own animal. This is incredible.' Robert's voice is just so super human; his writing is amazing. And so the three of us doing the writing really formed into something that I think people are gonna be surprised by. There are the DOKKEN elements there — no question — and there's a bit of LYNCH MOB in there too. But there's also something very musical about this record. We sort of let ourselves get very musical and kind of deep in spots, but in a very melodic, accessible way. The result is an album that stands independent from DOKKEN and it stands independent from LYNCH MOB, although there are definitely elements about that, and you're certainly not gonna mistake George's guitar playing.”

On their Gates of Hell Records debut Forgotten Lands, Germany’s Booze Control continue to evolve into classic metal

songsmiths with tracks that adopt a more serious tone than previous efforts.

Formed in 2009 in Braunschweig, Germany, Booze Control came together at the spur of the moment when guitarist/vocalist David Kuri, bassist Steffen Kurth and drummer Lauritz “Lord” Jilge, were asked to assemble a band for a local event. The trio quickly gathered in a local rehearsal room to write songs in preparation for the show, thinking all along the band would be short-lived. But, to their surprise, more gigs followed, as did second guitarist Jendrik Seiler. Booze Control started to enjoy their new compositions, which, in comparison to the more technical nature of their previous outfits, was welcome. Soon, their debut EP, Wanted, was released in 2009, followed up by 2011’s Don’t Touch While Running. However, leading up to the creation of their 2013 album Heavy Metal, Kuri and Jilge had a revelation while watching Iron Maiden’s Beast Over Hammersmith live video. The conviction in which Bruce Dickinson sings, the energy of the band and the charisma they displayed while on stage needed to be followed in Booze Control. Prior, Booze Control was riding the somewhat clichéd boozed-out rock band angle a bit too hard with their first releases. While the songs were there, the delivery wasn’t, so the band made a concerted effort to improve their songwriting and stage presentation for Heavy Metal. They succeeded in doing so, setting them on a path for the ensuing 2016 The Lizard

Rider album and their latest and first LP for Gates of Hell Records, Forgotten Lands.

filled with spiraling melodies, driving rhythms and catchy vocal lines from Kuri. The band’s songwriting diversity is

on display with “Of the Deep” as well as “Attack of the Axeman,” songs that peddle an epic flair with a classic metal

foundation.

Now ten years into their career, Booze Control has already gone well beyond their humble origins and party-time

Produktinfo: Burning Rain is a hard rock band established in 1998 by guitarist extraordinaire Doug Aldrich and vocalist Keith St. John . Their 1999 debut record established Burning Rain as a hungry yet seasoned group of musicians. Although the album was limited in its release, it received rave reviews from fans and critics alike for their take on heavy, bluesy hard rock. The following year, Burning Rain released the follow up, “Pleasure To Burn” which showed a matured Aldrich-St John collaboration that gained even higher praise than the first album. In 2001, Aldrich joined DIO and later departed in 2003 as he was approached by David Coverdale to join a newly reformed Whitesnake , while St. John joined forces with guitar legend Ronnie Montrose. While still in Whitesnake, Aldrich started working on new Burning Rain music, which saw the light of day in 2013 as the album “Epic Obsession”. Their third release was again met with enthusiasm from fans and critics alike. Aldrich would later leave Whitesnake and join The Dead Daisies and Revolution Saints , which left Burning Rain on an extended hiatus. Now, finally a new album is ready for release! “Face the Music” is a blues driven hard rock record which is truly a tour-de-force. With a renewed lineup featuring the amazing Blas Elias (Slaughter) on drums and bassist Brad Lang (Y&T), the album evokes the sound of the classic 70’s hard rock scene, but also stays true to the Burning Rain sound. One thing is for certain, Burning Rain has made the wait for new music well worth it.

GASKIN Beyond World's End WM 06

Ursprünglich 2009 erstmalig veröffentlicht, fasst »Beyond World’s End« diverse unveröffentlichte Songs der ersten Gaksin-Besetzung mit Paul Gaskin am Gesang/Gitarre, Stef Prokopczuk (Bass) und Dave Norman (Drums) zusammen. Die Platte war dem 2008 verstorbenen Stef Prokopczuk gewidmet und beinhaltet das erste Demo der Band aus dem Mai 1980 (aus dem die Debüt-Single “I’m No Fool”/“Sweet Dream Maker” ausgekoppelt wurde). Außerdem vertreten sind zwei Stücke aus der Session zum Debütalbum »End Of The World«, nämlich “Broken Up” (ursprünglich als zweite Single vorgesehen) und “Don’t Worry ’Bout A Thing”. “Lay Me Easy” und “Come Back To Me” stammen dagegen aus der kurzen Phase mit Sänger Mick Clarke. Furiose Live-Versionen von “Burning Alive” und “Dirty Money” runden die Platte gebührend ab. Die CD-Fassung von »Beyond World’s End« enthält zudem vier Bonus-Stücke: akustische Versionen von “That’s What Friends Are For” und “Come To Me” (der Ursprung dieser Songs reicht bis ins Jahr 1981 zurück) sowie alternative Live-Aufnahmen von “Burning Alive” sowie “Dirty Money” (aufgezeichnet beim “Hard Rock Hell”-Festival im Dezember 2017). »Beyond World’s End« ist ein Muss für alle NWOBHM-Sammler und ein gefundenes Fressen für jeden Gaskin-Fan.

The metal scene moves fast. Hundreds of releases are made available every month from new bands jockeying for position or veteran outfits doing their best to keep up with the times. It simply may no longer be feasible to release an album, support it with some shows, then disappear for two years only to do it all over again. Such is the line of thinking for Canada’s Gatekeeper, who return in 2019 with the four-song Grey Maiden EP. The follow-up to their successful East of Sun full-length debut, Grey Maiden includes the brand-new title track and acoustic “Moss,” a re-recording of “Tale of Twins” from their first demo and a cover of “Richard III” by obscure NWOBHM outfit Tredegar. Gatekeeper — who consist of vocalist Jean-Pierre, guitarist/founding member Geoff Blackwell, lead guitarist Kenny Kroecher, bassist David Messier and drummer Tommy Tro — originally had the idea to record an EP after being asked by Skol Records to contribute to their NOWBHM compilation, Grandbreton Invasion. Figuring they were already going to be ensconced in the studio recording “Richard III,” Gatekeeper decided to waste no time in pulling the Grey Maiden EP together, providing their fans with an early 2019 treat.

The title track finds Gatekeeper at their melodic best, showcasing the band’s penchant for twin guitar harmonies as well as the impressive range of Jean-Pierre, who ably weaves between heavy, complex riffing. In fact, Jean-Pierre’s work on “Grey Maiden,” “Tale of Twins” and “Richard III,” showcase a vocalist now coming into his own, something that Blackwell attests to the pair’s deep well of ideas and constant flow of communication between the band’s home base of Vancouver and Jean-Pierre’s current locale of Portland, Oregon. Blackwell, the consummate riff and melody writer, JP, a vocalist who likes to think outside of the box, are often looking for unique rhythmic patterns to suit his versatile vocals. The songwriting serve-and-volley between the two paid quick dividends on East of Sun and only gets better here, especially when Gatekeeper explores the challenging terrain of “Richard III.” In fact, the members of Gatekeeper are more apt to drop obscure metal references then they are to vouch for the scene’s more prominent bands. Blackwell considers it to be their “bread and butter,” born from the never-ending desire to find bands off the beaten path who could offer something new and vibrant to influence Gatekeeper’s sound. This pursuit of individualism is one of Gatekeeper’s defining traits — they easily elude many of melodic and power metal’s stylistic trappings on both East of Sun and Grey Maiden. The new year will find Gatekeeper hitting Europe with labelmates Sanhedrin in addition to hunkering down with a brand-new batch of songs for an eventual sophomore full-length release. Grey Maiden is hardly a stopgap release, but another bold proclamation from a band who appears to be just getting started. European tour with label-mates SANHEDRIN in February / March 2019.

HERITAGE Remorse Code WM 06

Heritage kommen aus dem Stall von Rondelet Records und legten 1981 ihre Debüt-Single ‘Strange Place To Be’ (B-Seite ‘Misunderstood’) vor. Die beiden Stücke wurden im März 1981 in den Fairview Studios in Hull aufgenommen und zeigen das songwriterische Talent der Band. Eine LP bekam grünes Licht, aber Line-Up-Probleme verzögerten das Projekt signifikant. Die Heritage-Besetzung, die 1982 wieder im Fairview Studio aufschlug, hatte kaum noch etwas mit der Gründungsbesetzung zu tun. Sänger Darryl Cheswick, Gitarrist Jeff Birkby, Bassist Tony Hynd und Drummer Paul Gilbert hatte allesamt das Weite gesucht, lediglich Gitarrist und Songwriter Steve Johnson war übrig geblieben. Steve Barratt (Gitarre), Paul ‘Frasker’ Johnson (Bass) sowie Peter Halliday (Drums) komplettierten die neue Besetzung. Das resultierende Album »Remorse Code« war so vielschichtig wie die NWOBHM selbst und reichte von Lizzy-esquen Stücken (‘Endless Flight’) über Instrumentals (‘Rudy And The Zips’ ) bis hin zu treibenden Nummern (‘Attack Attack’). Leider ereilten Rondelet Records alsbald existenzbedrohende finanzielle Schwierigkeiten, was auch für Heritage das jähe Karriereende bedeutete. Die vorliegende Veröffentlichung umfasst das Gesamtwerk von Heritage, bestehend aus der erwähnten 7“ Single sowie der LP »Remorse Code«.

Produktinfo: Der Opener „Cold Water“ erzählt von genau so einem oben erwähnten „When The Harbour...“ Moment. Nach der melancholischen

Strophe bricht der Refrain mit unerwarteter Euphorie hervor. „I´d do it all again, I´d do it all again“ singt der Chor und dieses Motto zieht

sich weiter durch das Album. Auch in „Obsolete Majesty“, „Anytime“ und „Glow“ erzählt Vivie kleine Dramen aus ihrem verworrenen

Leben – jedoch immer mit einer selbstbewussten Attitüde. Als hätte sie sich auf die Fahne geschrieben, ja zu sagen zu all dem Chaos,

den kleinen und großen Kapriolen des Schicksals, der manchmal schmerzhaften Überemotionalität. So pendelt das Album zwischen

leisen, intimen Momenten und wilden, explosiven Ausbrüchen, manchmal sogar innerhalb des selben Songs („Windmills“). Dass Vivie

eine große Stimme hat, zeigt sie spätestens in „Loverboy“, einem Song der durchaus auch als Bewerbung für den nächsten Bond-

Song aufgefasst werden könnte. Auf dem abschließenden „No End“ mündet schließlich alles in einem großen E-Gitarren Chaos. Aber

Chaos ist für Vivie Ann ja die beste Inspiration.

Der US-Sänger und Gitarrist war Gründungsmitglied von The Byrds und einer ihrer Haupt-Songwriter – darunter ‘I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Betterʼ - schied aber aus persönlichen Gründen bereits 1966 aus der Band. Seine Solokarriere startete Clark mit diesem Album, welches 1967 erschien und zusammen mit den Byrds-Kollegen Chris Hillman und Michael Clarke , sowie Top-Studiomusiker Glen Campbell, Jim Gordon, Leon Russell und natürlich den Gosdin Brothers eingespielt wurde. Das Originalalbum wurde mit drei Bonustracks aufgestockt: ‘Needing Someone (alt version)ʼ, ‘The French Girlʼ und ‘So You Say you Lost Your Baby (alt version)ʼ.

Dieses 3 CD-Set enthält alle drei Originala lben – ‘Never Never Landʼ, ‘What A Bunch Of Sweetiesʼ und ‘Kings Of Oblivionʼ - welche die Band Anfang der 1970er für Polydor einspielte, sowie 10 Bonustracks , darunter ihre Singles ‘The Snakeʼ/‘Do Itʼ und ‘Well Well Wellʼ/‘Hold Onʼ. Guy Clark war schlichtweg eine Ikone der US-Country- und Folkszene. Dieser Livemitschnitt entstand 1988, als er im Great American Music Hall in San Francisco 11 seiner bekanntesten Songs performte. Dieses Album reflektiert die Welt in der wir leben. Der Name ALARM passt also wie die Faust aufs Auge. Ein

Alarm ist eine Warnung, die auf drohende Gefahren aufmerksam macht. „Die Welt in der wir leben ist ekelhaft

geworden. Es war noch nie so einfach Ideen für Texte zu finden“ sagt Lars Felker. „Wir können nicht mehr

gedankenlos in Freiheit leben“. Die Texte schiessen unter anderen gegen Rassismus, Schubladendenken, Politik,

Zerstörung, Hass und Gewalt. Songwriter Martin gibt zu „eine gewisse rebellische Art und Haltung stand diesmal

stark im Vordergrund. Wir schwimmen gegen den Strom“.

Musikalisch haben Orange Sector sich nicht neu erfunden, sie sind sogar noch weiter in die Vergangenheit gereist.

Die Hannoveraner klingen nun noch mehr nach oldschool als je zu vor. Absicht? Ja! Martin „Ein Musiker muss

nach sich selbst klingen. Ich wollte schon immer ein komplettes Album in diesem Gewand machen. Melodien habe

ich mir selbst verboten. Eigentlich wollten wir 1992 genau so klingen, wie wir das jetzt tun. ALARM ist das beste,

konsequenteste und politischste Orange Sector Album in unserer 27 jährigen Bandgeschichte“.

Es gibt 10 neue Songs die im Laufe der letzten 2 Jahre geschrieben wurden. Zu den Aufnahmen ging es wieder in

das Wellencocktail Tonstudio nach Hannover. Neusector Rene Nowotny hat fleißig seine Audiospuren aus Berlin

per Email gesendet. Rene hatte Einfluss auf die Clubsongs. Neben diesen clubtauglichen Songs (DIE FAHNE

(Single Mix) und PEACE) sind aber diesmal die Pogonummern in Überzahl. Songs wie WIR SIND

MEHR, FEUER, oder I SPIT ON YOU dürfen in keinem Livekonzert fehlen. Martins Shoutgesang wird von Rene

und Lars unterstützt. Man muss ALARM laut hören, zum Konzert gehen und auf der Tanzfläche Luft

ablassen. Tanzen und Mitgrölen lautet der Befehl!

unterdrückt. Dies ist ein Kampf, den keiner gewinnen kann. Das

Monster, das dich von innen heraus verschlingt, gewinnt immer …

Das Album ist eine Beschwörung, um das Monster zu entfesseln,

das eigene „wahre“ Selbst anzunehmen und den dunkelsten

Gelüsten zu erlauben, sich auszudrücken. Es ist ein Aufruf zum

Handeln. Der innere Unmensch hat den inneren Kampf gewonnen

und somit Mr Strangler hervorgebracht.

Sein „wahres Selbst“ akzeptierend, drückt Mr Strangler seine

dunkelsten Impulse ohne Einschränkungen aus und kennt keine

Grenzen. Zusammen mit seiner Gang begeht Mr Strangler Morde

und Massaker. Ebenso lädt er jeden dazu ein, einen Schritt

weiterzugehen und zu handeln, die eigenen dunklen Begierden

auszudrücken und seinem Todeskult beizutreten.

Für Mr Strangler und seine Bande ist das Monster frei! Lasst das

Massaker beginnen! Lasst die dunkelsten, menschlichen Gelüste

zu: Mord. In diesem zweiten Akt sind die furchterregendsten
