Freshmen Seminars
• http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Dean_of_the_College/First_Year_Seminars/
• Limited to a maximum of 20 students and often enrolling even fewer students
• First Year Seminars are an ideal way to get to know one of your professors well in an Academic setting
• Small size and therefore congenial setting encourages participation in lively discussion and provides regular opportunity to receive feedback from the instructor on the work you produce for the class.
• If you didn’t get a course in Fall, then please look out for a suitable opportunity when choosing courses for Spring semester.

Strategy
•Intellectual Adventure•Balance - Science vs Non-science courses
Science - Social Sciences - Humanities - Multi-disciplinary
Reading - Labs - Calculations •Breadth
That’s why your at Brown? Work the Network - active participant Developing a language is worth considering
•Build from Strength Take at least 1 course that will build on your
know strengths •4 course per semester
Shop and then stick with it Use advising resources at start of semester Confidence to trust your own instincts
•Grades Don’t become obsessed…, better to keep load
at 4 course/sem, and keep grades up Typically 1 SN/C is appropriate
•Challenge traditional perspectives No course is closed to you by virtue of content
•Looking to develop a theme Overlaps between courses Don’t take too many introductory courses
