We are excited to see the steel beams on the second floor installed and “reaching for the sky”. It just gives us “goose bumps” to see this major phase of construction taking place. With the installation of the new steps to the second floor completed and the steel beams in place, we now can continue with the next phase of the construction. The second floor will be used for our administrative offices and two one bedroom apartments for the administrative staff. As usual, we are so appreciative of the dedication and hard work of John Gilbert of 99+1 Ministries who supervises all the construction at Sonshine Hacienda. John was able to enlist the help of a very capable local Engineer here in San Felipe. We could not have accomplished this part of the construction without him. We are so happy that we could offer this work to a capable, local businessman. We were able to financially help out a local resident by providing needed work, and in exchange, he was able to help us out with his expertise and dedicated labor. Things are difficult here for our local residents...little work and severe financial situations. Not unlike what the situation is in the States is at this time. In addition to the work on the second floor, we have also begun cement finishing of the inside walls on the first floor. We are tackling the plastering of the walls one room at a time. To keep the cost down, we are using only one paid worker and one volunteer to do this job. If anyone has experience with finish work on walls and would like to volunteer some time helping at Sonshine, please contact us. We could use your help! WHAT’S NEXT??? SONSHINE HACIENDA: THE WORK CONTINUES

Despite heat, humidity, and threats of hurricanes this summer...nothing has slowed down the progress on the construction of Sonshine Hacienda.

If

anyone has experience with finish work on walls and would like to volunteer some time helping at Sonshine, please contact us. We could use your help!

WHAT’S NEXT???

John Gilbert, our Construction Superintendent for Sonshine tells us that we are going to focus on four projects in the coming months. In addition of continuing to work on the second floor and the finish interior wall work, we are also going to begin insulating and plastering the exterior of the entire building. We also are ready

Page 2: August, 2009 - Amazon S3 · August, 2009 August, 2009 SONSHINE HACIENDA: THE WORK CONTINUES Despite heat, humidity, and threats of hurricanes ... walls on the first floor. We are

to begin tiling the floors of the two dorm bathrooms and the doctor office. We need to tile the bathrooms right away because we have to have the tile down before we can do the plumbing in the bathrooms. The plumbing will be installed in the coming months as well.

If you or your church members have any skills in this type of finish construction, plastering or laying tile, we could sure use the help! If you or your church would like to come down and help with these projects, please contact us and we will welcome you with open arms! You can contact us at [email protected] or John Gilbert at [email protected] .

MORE GOOD NEWS

God is so good!! We have received news that a construction company from Washington State has donated all the windows for our second floor. This is no small donation. There are thirteen windows on the second floor! We are so grateful to this company for this generous donation. The plan is that they will deliver the windows to the boarder and then we will need to import them into Mexico. Please pray that all goes well with that step in the process.

ANOTHER INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE

Luis Angel Jimenez Perez, 18 years of age, has a plan for his life. First, he wants to get a college education. Luis shares that upon completing his education, and beginning to work in his chosen profession, more doors of opportunity will open for him to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his home town of San Felipe, as well as helping the people of San Felipe learn the importance of a healthy life style through proper nutrition.

We met Luis in early August through mutual friends in San Felipe. Luis is obviously a very dedicated and accomplished student. As a

result of hard work and resulting excellent grades from our local High School, Luis applied and received a nearly complete full ride scholarship to a private university, the University of Navojoa in Sonora, Mexico. He is studying to obtain a degree in Nutrition. Although his scholarship covers his tuition, room and board and other necessities, he was in need of a lap top computer for his studies. This university has replaced the need for buying books (a costly expense) by providing CD’s of all text books. So, a lap top was a very basic need for Luis. After meeting Luis and seeking the Lord’s guidance, Marketplace Missions purchased the lap top, carrying case and purchased the software, Microsoft Office in Spanish. Luis left for the University a few weeks ago. We received a recent e-mail from Luis. He gave us his new address at the University, thanked us once again and simply stated...” I am very happy!!!!!!”. That’s all we needed to hear!

DEAR FRIENDS VISIT SAN FELIPE

We have been so blessed this past year because three of our Marketplace Missions Board Members have taken time out of their busy lives to visit us here in San Felipe. We are always so excited to rekindle friendships as well as share what God is accomplishing through Marketplace Missions. Each of these Board Members has invested 14 years of service to Marketplace Missions. Each of them has been with us since the initial founding of Marketplace Missions. Earlier this year, Dr. Robert Lewis and his wife,

Debbie visited for a week in February. Then in May, we were blessed to have Anthony Carlile, M.D. and his wife Julie here for a week. This August we shared a very special week with Reverends Eddie and LaNita Green (pictured below). In spite of the heat, we had such an awesome time with these two precious servants. These two are on fire for the Lord and are excited about beginning a new church in their home town, Stockton, California. They are also excited about involving their new church in our work here in San Felipe. We are looking forward to hosting mission teams from their church in the near future. There is much to be accomplished in our community of San Felipe. We look forward to co-laboring with them...together for Christ!

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING.....

• If you would like your contributions to be designated to Sonshine Hacienda , just write that in the memo portion of your check. We want to assure all of you that 100% of all designated funds are used solely for Sonshine Hacienda. There are no administrative costs involved in any designated fund project of Marketplace Missions.

• Why we can’t finish the first floor and begin to take children, while finishing the second floor? The country of Mexico has strict regulations regarding Orphanages and group homes. They will not allow us to open until the entire building project is completed.
