Thank you to Lion Alec and helpers for the wonderful effort with the Antiques, Collectables and Hobbies day at the TT&C Club. They raised $943.20 for Camp Quality.

RDA Building, Thank you to all Lions that bared the cold mornings to help build 3 shelters for the club over 3 weekends. To those that help provide lunch for the workers. I hear a few Lions learnt new skills, which is always great.

Sandra is away until the end of July so please contact myself & Dean if anyone not well.

Our major fundraising item at present will be: building the play house raffle and selling the tickets Helping at the Hospice Ball 22nd August and Cancer collection 29th& 30th August

September looks like a busy month with Speech Contest, Clean up NZ week, the AGM on the 16th and a Partners night

Dean & I will be away for the Tea and Board meeting in August which 1stVP Tony will be in attendance Alastair is doing well

The Achievers wall has been changed this month due again in first week of December. Neville would like to know who has the folder that he did on this project. We would like names at the tea meeting for the recipients of the raffle please, put your thinking hats on and we will discuss it at the meeting Yours in Lionism, Mary

Projects 1 Cancer Society Daffodil Day

Cancer Society Daffodil Day has been extended to Saturday 29th August. They would like us to cover the 2 Countdown Supermarkets from 10am to 4pm. The following people have volunteered.

Fairlie Bake house Pies We are undertaking a Pie Drive – the order forms and dates due will be sent out via email next week, and copies will also be available at our next tea meeting. Jack Dijkstra has kindly agreed to pick up the pies when they are ready. This is an easy fundraiser and there is really no work for us to complete just selling so please ask your friends and family.

Hospice Ball This event is being held on Saturday 22nd August from 6.45pm to 12.30pm. We have had an overwhelming number of Lions volunteering for this; however due to the small bar space we are limited to only 6 Lions per shift. So we have unfortunately decided to go down the list (the people that volunteered first)

Projects 2

Playhouse- well underway by Trevor Deam, and steps are now in progress for colour co-ordination and furnishing. Members will be notified when assembly and painting will commence. Tickets on sale end of August. Please advise charities for the playhouse raffle. Nominations will be at the next tea meeting. RDA-Construction of animal shelters, a total of three had been completed on Sunday. Thanks to all those involved in the construction and also the food/lunch ladies. It was an enjoyable project and lots of fun. RDA-Riding For Disabled are having an open day for the shelters and to acknowledge Suburban Lions for the project. Time and date TBA. They also have another project which is to assist them to renovate and paint their club room. A suggested time would be in the summer months. Truck show proposed in the new year and the proceeds will go to Camp Quality. Planning will go ahead if agreed. Mike K

At the business meeting in August we propose (with pleasure) to induct Louise Aubrey into membership of our club. As this is an important occasion it would be nice to have as many members there as possible. Keep thinking who you know might make a good Lion. Diane

‘10-10-10 Walk for Kids’ The club has given the Youth Committee approval to investigate a Timaru 10km sponsored walk commencing at 10am on Saturday 10 October. The walks are being organised across N.Z. by the Lions Child Mobility Foundation. The Youth Committee will liaise with the Timaru District Council, the CMF Trustee Team, the Canterbury Halberg Disability Sport Foundation advisor, CCS Disability Action and Sport Canterbury Timaru Office. We’ll report back to the Club at the August Board meeting. ‘KEEP THIS SATURDAY FREE ON YOUR DIARY PLEASE’

An excellent Sunday at the T & C Club, thanks to Lion Alec and his merry band of helpers. It was a cold day and we were joined by the car show folks from the carpark for a time. Total profit was $943.20; which includes $764.50 from door takings and valuations.

Lion Lynnette & Shirley –‘ $2 please’ This is what one of our club members built with matchsticks when had a broken leg - last century so it’s an antique!!!

2016 202J CONVENTION with ASHBURTON COUNTY LIONS 26/27/28 Feb 2016

Words from 202J DG Fern “Lions make it Happen”

This year there is a new initiative called “First for Fern” which means that every new member put in this

year will get a special millennium certificate. And a special pin, which has been struck for the occasion. The

sponsor also gets a certificate and pin. Last year our District membership didn’t drop, the first time for

many years, but the status quo was maintained. It would be great if this year we were able to increase the

District membership. The club that is first to induct five new members for DG Fern, will be presented with

a special trophy in recognition for their efforts on introducing these members into Lionism. New members

not only help fulfil our mission but also provide possible future leadership and lighten the load of current

members.

I look forward to working with your Zone Chairman Mike Wingfield, and he should be a great help to your

club when needed.

will be attending the A.N.Z.I. Forum in Auckland, On the 4th to 6th September, it is still not too late if any of

Lion Alistair is home and improving.

Optical Glasses collection We continue to collect optical glasses, frames and lens. They can either be dropped off at Dee Street

Pharmacy or bring them to a club meeting and give them to President Mary. These glasses, lens and

frames are transported to Christchurch. They are tested and those which can be are reused in the Pacific

islands. Please tell your family and friends about this collection.

Aluminium Collection We collect Aluminium (e.g Wine bottle) tops and cans. Please save them and bring them to a club

meetings and give them to Lion Lyn. Money from these are part of a national Kidney Kids fund raiser.

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Officer asks a young engineer fresh out of

the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "And what starting salary are you looking for?" The engineer

inquires, "Well, what would you say to a package of five weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical

years, say, a red Corvette?" The engineer sits up straight and says, "Wow! Are you kidding?" The

interviewer replies, "Yeah, but you started it."

Well this is the end of my first attempt, at a bulletin. I look forward to receiving the first editorial.
