The Transfiguration of the Lord

RCIA begins in the Fall Prior to beginning the RCIA process, an individual comes to some knowledge of Jesus Christ, considers his or her relationship with Jesus Christ and is usually attracted in some way to the Catholic Church. This period is known as the Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate. For some, this process involves a long period of searching; for others, a shorter time. Often, contact with people of faith and a personal faith experience lead people to inquire about the Catholic Church. After a conversation with a priest, or RCIA director, the person, known as an "inquirer," may seek acceptance into the Order of Catechumens, through the Rite of Acceptance.

During this Rite, the inquirer stands amidst the parish community and states that he or she wants to become a baptized member of the Catholic Church. The parish assembly affirms this desire and the inquirer becomes a Catechumen. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic, or learning more about our faith, please contact Terry Battaglia at 440-248-0980 ext. 26 or Fr. Tom Dragga at ext. 22.

Celebration of the Eucharist

Weekend Saturday Vigil: 5:30 PM Sunday 9 AM & 11 AM

Weekdays: 8:30AM Monday Tuesday Wednesday & Friday

Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday at 4:30 PM or by appointment

Dear Parishioners,

A number of weeks ago you might recall a survey was in the bulletin and sent by email. This survey invited the men in the parish community to reflect upon their desires of the type of programs that the parish might offer to help the men of the parish with spiritual and social type needs.

While the response to the survey was not huge, we did

receive many very good suggestions. One suggestion that stood out above all the rest was to offer a Men’s Scripture Sharing.

Beginning on Thursday, September 14th we will be offering

a Men’s Scripture Sharing from 6:30am-and concluding no later than 7:30am. Please don’t worry if you need to leave a little early in order to get to work. The focus will be on the Scriptures for the coming Sunday with a couple of reflection questions. It will be a rather informal gathering with a cup of coffee in hand and an opportunity to share and reflect with each other on the Word of God in preparation for the coming week.

On a related note, Lisa will be offering a Scripture Series at

12 noon on Thursdays beginning September 14. Two great opportunities to reflect, share faith and learn more about the Word of God.

Finally, a word of thanks to all who contributed to the Back

to School Drive. We were able to provide 40 bags of School Supplies and $833.00 that the St. Vincent DePaul Society will use to purchase and distribute school supplies to children in the area. Thanks again for your generosity.

Sincerely, Fr. Tom Dragga

USO The USO of Northern Ohio is actively seeking the addresses of service members who are deployed overseas for the purpose of sending them care packages of nice to have items. Typically we include toiletries, snacks, books, magazines and personal care items in the packages. Families who have sons or daughters deployed are asked to pass the info via e-mail to [email protected]. We need the name, address and when the service member

is expected to be coming home. If there are any questions, please call the package coordinator Susan Kryjewski at 216-387-2479.

Support for the Incarcerated Do you, because of the incarceration of a loved one, experience isolation, shame, guilt, and an overwhelming sense of being alone? The LEAF Ministry has been formed to be of support to you. Groups meet monthly offering an opportunity to those who come to listen and share community, network and learn from others who understand their situation, challenges, fears and emotions. All are welcome to participate irrespective of faith affiliation. For more information visit the website: www.leafministry.org No pre-registration is necessary. Holy Angels is holding support groups for families of the incarcerated. If you know of anyone who could benefit from this ministry, please have them contact Bernie Nagle at 440-591-5183 or Donna Angelotti in the Holy Angels Parish Office at [email protected] or 440-708-0000.

Parish Annual Service Day September 9th is our annual day of Service in the Community. We will begin at 8 AM with coffee and doughnuts. Following the service times from 9 to 12 we will meet on parish grounds for a cookout. Currently we have spaces open for twelve more people to assist in our various groups. Boys Girls Hope, Garfield Heights needs seven more people, Thea Bowman Center in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood needs three more people, Malachi House for the Terminally ill needs one more person and St. Malachi House Back Door cookies needs one additional person. Please sign up on line or fill out a registration form and turn it in to the office. Many hands make light work. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up.

Support to End the Death Penalty Executions for several Ohio inmates have been postponed by Governor Kasich following a federal court decision barring the state’s lethal injection protocol. Join your voice with others to urge Governor Kasich to not allow the resumption of executions in Ohio. It has been three years since the last execution. We know that Ohioans can be safe from dangerous criminals while holding them accountable without taking their lives. You can call the governor at 614-466-3555 with your personal request that he not resume executions, and if you didn’t already, please see the display in the Gathering Area to sign a post card which the Social Justice commission will mail for you.

Thea Bowman Center Thea Bowman Center in partnership with Nathan Hale School located on Martin Luther King Blvd is in desperate need of help for children 5 to 14 years old. The goal is to help children with reading and math skills. The program will be at Nathan Hale from 2:30 to 4 PM. Parents are supporting this project and the Thea Bowman Center is helping project by trying to recruit tutors. Tutors can give whatever hours/week that they can do: 1 day or 2 days and we ask people to be as consistent as possible because you will be assigned to up to 5 students depending on how much time you can give. Your help would be a major BOOST to the children in this school and to the Mt Pleasant Community. The school has identified about 80 children for the tutoring program. The children will receive a free meal through the food bank. This will be a work in progress but I feel confident that we can help the children/school if we can get the tutor support needed. Please contact Ella Thomas, Executive Director of the Thea Bowman Center, 11901 Oakfield Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44105. 216-491-0699 or

We are making a special appeal to all of our Lectors, Catechists for Children's Liturgy of the Word, RCIA Team members as well as PSR and RTC catechists to attend this evening. Even if you are not presently involved in one of the above mentioned ministries in the life of the parish, I want to encourage you to participate in this evening. Terry Pluto is not only a great writer, he is an engaging speaker. Join us on Wednesday, September 13th at 7:00 PM at St. Paschal Church in Highland Heights.

(6) We reverence and welcome each person as a child of God. Embracing and celebrating the diversity of gifts among us, we call everyone to contribute and be served.

We need additional volunteers in each of these ministries. If you are interested in additional information about these two ministries please contact us.
