“Family Camp”

Summer is winding down and we’re getting ready for Family Camp. It’s going to be a great time of hanging out together, getting to know each other a little better, and learning and talking about God and His Word. We have an exciting agenda planned that includes a giant swing, a lake, and even a talent show! It’s going to be a special time spent together that will have real value as we continue to grow as a church. We are planning to talk about what it really means to be a part of a local church. What does it mean to live life together in Christ-centered relationships? One thing that we know about family is that it can be messy. Very rarely are things running smooth and ideal. We are not called out in order to find the smooth water, but to wade through together whatever the condi-
tions may be. Being apart of a church is the recognition that we need each other. If we had it all together then we wouldn’t need this in our lives. But we don’t have it altogether, so we need each other. All of us are gifted in different areas and the idea is that we give our talents and gifts to help edify and encourage one another. We don’t simply consume, but we all give as Christ gave to us. As we talk through and discuss these issues together, we are looking forward to seeing what God does with our time at Family Camp. If you have not yet registered for Family Camp, let us know and we can help you out. There are RV spots available and even possibly a yurt. If you cannot make it the entire week-end, there is also the option to come up Saturday only. The bottom line is that we want you to be at Family Camp. It will not be the same without you. Please pray for Family Camp as God brings it to your mind, and we will see you there!

by Matt ArbuckleThe summer attitude for GW is kick back, relax, and enjoy not having school. Due to so many of our kids being gone for the majority of summer we are not meeting on a regular basis. However, there are still some big events coming up for our high school team. Camp Attitude is what we are most excited for, we have a bigger team going this year and our high schoolers are submitting part of their summer to help another family for a week.
We will be leaving from there to our Family Camp, again the high school team will be committing more of their time to clean things up and help in the kitchen. I am proud of the servant hearts we have seen in these high schoolers. Please be praying for safe travels and strength for the weeks ahead.

by Tawnya MeyerSummer is in full swing and things have been busy for Kidztown. In July, we saw the return of Kidztown Summer Meet-Ups with a trip to the Lava River Cave followed by an opportunity for kids to have a free lunch at Bend-LaPine School District’s lunch and learn program at Pilot Butte Park on the 29th. We will continue these meet-ups through the month of August, with the exception of the 12th, where we hope you will join us for Family Camp.

by Matt ArbuckleOur trip to Sunriver was a success, we had 14 of our middle schoolers attend which is almost our entire group. The highlight of the trip was our scavenger hunt, taking pictures with complete strangers or selfies with a dog were just a few of the activities on the list. I was proud to watch this group of young people grow closer together. We had a few people that were going through

Fall is just around the corner and I am busy planning the Kidztown Fall Kick-off meeting. This meeting is for anyone interested in serving in Kidztown for the
2016-2017 school year. Our kids program is growing and we need all the help that we can get! A volunteer commitment can be as little as one Sunday a month. That’s only 45 minutes! All lessons are sent to you via e-mail the week before then they are prepared and waiting for you in the classroom. You are not required to create or prepare lessons. Just prepare your heart to reach the kids!
some difficult situations and I got to watch as the kids gathered around and comforted those in need. I could not be happier to see our youth growing together in both the fun and hard times. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we enter this next school year.

BLOOD PRESSUREJuly BP screening for 10 males and 7 females revealed 5 elevations. The next screening will be held on September 11.
WATER SAFETY Drowning is the leading cause of injury deaths in children 1-4 years of age, and second in children 1-14. Formal swimming lessons reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%. Learn to swim well. Swim only in designated areas with a life guard in attendance and always swim with a buddy. Home pools should be completely enclosed by fencing at least 4 feet high, gates self closing and self latching with latches out of reach of children. Alarms and pool covers are additional safety features. Remove any structures
or objects such as furniture that could provide access to the pool. Remove ladders from above ground pools when not in use.
Children should be constantly supervised by a designated adult even at a pool with a life guard. Never ask an older child to supervise a younger child. Teach children to ask permission to go near a body of water. If a child is missing, check the body of water first. Have reaching or throwing rescue devices readily available, as well as a cell phone, life jacket
and first aid kit. Home pool owners should take courses in firsts aid, CPR, and pool and water safety. These courses are available through the American Red Cross. SIGNS OF SWIMMER DISTRESS: Floating on water surface face down longer than 30 seconds, dog paddling with no forward progress, vertical in water but not kicking legs arms pushing down at sides, mouth open just at water level or below. Distressed or drowning victims seldom splash or call for help, especially children.SHOUT FOR HELP, throw victim a life preserver, call 911 if needed. This and further information may be found at www.redcross.org.
