Daily Mass Time Change Reminder Remember that beginning Monday, August 16, daily Masses at the Cathedral will be at 6:30 am and 12:05 pm. The 8:00 am daily Mass will be cancelled as of that date. Also, the daily confession time will change to 7:00 to 7:30 am Monday through Friday.

As most of you know by now, Fr. Andrew Rockers will be moving to Beloit effective August 15. Fr. Ernest Amoako-opare will not be arriving from Ghana until September 15, so for that 30 days or so, Fr. Fred will be the only priest here at the Cathedral. During that time we are very grateful to Fr. Jerry Morgan for taking most all of the 8:00 am Sunday morning Cathedral Masses from mid-August to mid-September so that Fr. Fred can go to Brookville.

The Cathedral Finance Council will meet Thursday, August 19 at 6:00 pm in the conference room. Members’ presence is needed to sign the Annual Report and to review the 2021-2022 budget. Again, it cannot be said often enough: Thank You to everyone for being so faithful, consistent, and generous in your support of the Cathedral! While we do not have a great surplus, we are in the black and considering the year we have all been through, that is great reflection on the generosity of our parish!

The Ladies Guild meets Saturday, August 21

st

at 9:00 am in the Hall of Bishops. All women of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish are members. We have a busy year ahead of us, so don’t be shy about coming to see what we are up to!

Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry/Religious Education The Diocese of Salina is accepting resumes for the position of Director of Youth Ministry/Religious Education. This is the opportunity of a lifetime--to help others come together to encounter Christ Jesus and to grow in their Catholic faith. Please call or email Kim Hoelting, Human Resources Director for the Salina Diocese to request a copy of the job description or to submit a resume. Accepting applications through Aug. 20th, 2021, or until filled.

Fr. Fred’s Brown Bag Bible Basics Noon Bible Study

We are ramping up for another year! Our organizational meeting will be Thursday, September 2 at noon in the Hall of Bishops. We will meet to get a count as to the number of books we need to order as well as to decide which Book of the Bible to study this year. Right now it looks like a toss-up between the Book of Revelation or St. Paul’s 1st and 2nd Letters to the Corinthians. So be there to sign up and help us decide. The first class will be Thursday, September 23 at noon. Everyone is welcome and no previous Scripture study experience is necessary.

Annual Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid Meteor Shower is supposed to put on its best show the evening of Wednesday, August 11 going into the morning of Thursday, August 12. Fr. Fred is going to set up his large telescope at Coronado Heights Wednesday between 8pm and 9pm. But you won’t be able to see the meteors till after midnight. A telescope is NOT necessary to view the meteors. The best piece of equipment is a reclining lawn chair! But we will have the telescope set up to look at Jupiter, Saturn, and other gems of God’s creation in the night sky. The only problem is that the best viewing of meteors comes after midnight. So come out and stay as late as you can. Bring mosquito repellent! There will be plenty of things to see through the telescope as we wait for the meteors. Weather spoiler—if it is cloudy, the show is off!!

Save the date and support our seminarians! August 7-8 is the diocesan-wide seminarian collection and August 12 is the annual seminarian fundraising dinner. To learn more, visit https://salinadiocese.org/.../seminarian-

dinner-collection/

The annual seminarian dinner is set for August 12 at the Salina Country Club. This dinner is a time for the faithful to meet our current seminarians who we hope will one day become priests for our diocese. Proceeds from the dinner support the tuition, books, board and summer ministry expenses of our current seminarians, as well as recruitment of future seminarians. Currently, we have six seminarians. The average annual cost to educate one seminarian is $50,000. To register for the dinner, or to simply make a donation, please visit: https://salinadiocese.org/events/annual-seminarian-fundraising-dinner-2/ If you have questions, contact the Diocese at 785-827-8746

Also, any gift you make will be doubled! An anonymous pool of donors have provided a matching opportunity of $50,000 for gifts to the Seminarian Education fund. Your gift will be matched $1 for $1 as funds are available. Take advantage of the match today! Donate online at https://salinadiocese.org/.../catholic.../general-donations/. Or send a check to the Chancery, payable to the Diocese of Salina, with a designation to the Seminarian fund.

Rural Life Day will be August 15, in the East Central Deanery at the St. Boniface Parish in Tipton. The main feature of Rural Life Day is awarding of the Msgr. John George Weber Century Farm Awards. Families who have owned, farmed, or lived on a farm in the diocese for 100 years or more are eligible to apply for the Century Farm Award. Applications for the award may be found on the Diocesan Website under Rural Life. While families living in the East Central Deanery are encouraged to apply for the award, any family living in the Diocese of Salina may apply for the Century Farm Award. The deadline for applications is August 1. For additional information, please contact Fr. Rich Daise at (785) 462-2179 or email at [email protected]
