JPOs of The Month: March
We would like to congratulate JPOs of the month for March 2017
Rocky Baldovi and Nanasi Pekipaki.
The selection process is based on their studies in the classroom, their

As we get closer to our JPO competition we are asking all teachers
involved with our JPO'S to continue to encourage our JPOs.
Aspire to be productive and helpful. Adapt to changing conditions.

STEAM Night
STEAM Night
Kindergarten hosted a successful Career Day on April 7, 2017. Guest speakers included HPD’s Traffic Division (Motorcycle Off icers) and
American Medical Response Services EMTs, Mr. Gerald and Ms. Cheryl. They brought their vehicles for the kids to ride on and walk through, so
the students had a very up-close, hands on experience. The kindergarteners were so excited and had so much fun! They got to hear about
their careers and see what they do! Mahalo to our guests for volunteering your time and inspiring our children!

Reminders from The Office
Student Transfers - SY 2016/2017
Please be in communication with your child’s teacher, regarding your
intent to transfer to another school. We ask that as the year end
approaches that you notify the office at least two weeks prior to the
student’s last day. At the end of the day, on the last day of your
child’s attendance at August Ahrens Elementary, either parent/
guardian with custodial rights will need to come to the main office
with an ID and sign for the child’s release packet to assist with the
enrollment to the next school.
THINGS TO BE DONE BY PARENT:
You will need to complete a “Notice of Transfer” with detailed
information
Please make sure all meal account balances are cleared
All books need to be returned or paid for upon pick up of the
student’s release packet.
Thank you for your consideration
Field Trips
Field trips are taken to give students an opportunity and experience learning
in a different environment. Please submit permission form and payment
together by the deadline stated on the form. Payment must be turned into the
TEACHER by 8:00 am on collection days as stated on the permission form.
Payments should be CASH ONLY and exact change. Office cannot accept
any late payments or extensions. We will do our best to remind students and
families via school connect message and parent phone calls, as appropriate.
Messages for Students
Please refrain from calling the school office with messages for individual
students. Calls cannot be transferred to classrooms. In an emergency, and as
appropriate, a message can be delivered by office monitor. Thank you for
your cooperation.
Before and After School Programs
The Leeward YMCA offers on-campus before (starting at 6 am) and after
school care (until 5:30 pm). Please contact the Leeward YMCA Office at
#675-0208 for more information.
August Ahrens Elementary School uses an automated meal card system.
Each student has an individual account that works like a debit checking
account. Parents/Guardians must deposit monies into the account to be
charged for meals purchased. The school community has decided that all
payments must be made in CASH ONLY. Envelopes are available in the
front office, or you may use your own. If your child’s account has a negative
balance equal to or greater than $7.50, students in grades 3-6 may not be
served a meal on Wednesdays. If you are unable to make a payment,
please send a home lunch and drink with your child.
School ID's are used to purchase school meals, as well as check out
books. Lost, stolen, misused, forgotten or destroyed ID's can be replaced in
the Library for a nominal cost. A student who is unable to obtain a replace-
ment ID can be issued a temporary meal card at no cost in the Front Office.
Early Release
Please check in at the front office and have your picture ID available when
picking up your child early from school. This is for safety and security reasons.
We are enforcing a cut off time for early releases. 12:45 p.m. on Wednesdays,
and 1:45 p.m. for all other days. Please note that if you child is picked up
before 11 a.m., he/she will be marked absent for that day.
School Meal Information
School Hours and Supervision
School office hours are 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, closed
on holidays and weekends. Adult supervision is available for your child from
7:45 am - 2:00 pm. On Wednesdays, adult supervision ends at 1:00 pm.
Breakfast is served in the main cafeteria and in I cafeteria beginning
at 7:10 am. Students who eat breakfast are supervised in the cafeteria only.
If dropping students off before campus opens at 7:00 am, we encourage
you to take advantage of the Before School Program.
Extended Trips
Any trip of 10 or more days will result in disenrollment of the student. Students
may be re-enrolled when they return, provided they still meet the criteria of
enrollment. If only the parents are leaving town, please remember to
provide the school with a power of attorney so that we may release
students to their designated caregiver.
Health Records It is important that your child’s emergency records are up
to date in the Health Room. If you update your child’s
immunizations records, or if our child has any changes in
health conditions, please submit a copy of these updates
and/or changes to Ms. Julie in the Health Room. Also, please make sure that
