• No caso do gradiente de pressão adverso a força de pressão reduz a velocidade e pode inverter o sentido do escoamento.
• Junto à parede a a tensão de corte em cima, para a frente, é maior do que a tensão de corte em baixo, para trás. A força de corte opõe-se à força de pressão. Se for suficientemente forte pode impedir a inversão do escoamento (separação da camada limite).
