Qualification OutcomesThis qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply substantialspecialised knowledge and skills to design and safely apply non-ionisingradiation treatments using intense pulsed light and laser technologies toreduce unwanted hair on the face and body. In this role they make complex,high level, independent judgements in consulting with clients and analysingtheir skin and hair characteristics, designing and evaluating intense pulsedlight and laser hair reduction treatment programs, selecting and usingappropriate technology, and applying it within the context of safe client andoperator practices and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Ongoing technological developments in this area of practice require theuse of broad knowledge and the identification, analysis and evaluation ofinformation from a variety of sources to build personal capability.

Practice may be undertaken in the hair reduction stream of the beautyindustry.

Course Duration and Study OptionsThe course runs over 6 weeks with pre-written work and a 3 day face toface intensive practical component with classes held from 10 am to 2.30pm over (3) days.

The 3 day face to face component can be spread to suit you or blocked as3 days consecutively for those from a distance.

Course CostThe course tuition costs are $5,900 of which up to 100% can be coveredby VET Fee Help. VET Fee Help Students who withdraw prior to the censusdate will be required to pay an administration fee of 5% of the total coursecost.

Additional Fees not included in Tuition FeesAll students will be required to pay a (non-refundable) fee of $250 to covergoggles, consumables, machinery, equipments, administration fees andall products for the entire course at enrolment.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who arecompetent in managing the overall operation of abusiness involved in services and sales delivery inpersonal services environments, including, hairdressingand beauty salons and spas. A salon manager at thislevel may focus on building the business, creating andestablishing a personal services culture, leading anddeveloping a team, developing and implementingmarketing activities, and ensuring all occupationalhealth and safety requirements are maintained.

The Diploma of Remedial Massage qualification providesthe skills required forcompetence in remedial massagepractice. Practitioners at this level may be self-employed asindependent practitioners or may work within a largerhealth service. The diploma is the minimal level forreceiving WorkCover and Private Insurance Provider numbers.

Qualification OutcomesThe course covers the provision of remedial massage treatmentto clients with specific needs such as injury management,rehabilitation, palliative care and aged care. Classes for thiscourse are a mix of theory and practical subjects, and includepractical work in a salon environment. Practitioners at this levelmay supervise other massage therapists. The diploma is theminimal level for receiving WorkCover and Private InsuranceProvider numbers.

Course Duration and Study OptionsThe course runs for 12 months including scheduled holidays(dates will be confirmed with each course intake).

The course structure and duration has been scheduled to meet‘Health Fund Provider’ requirements and professional recognitionand membership as required.

Certificate IV of MassageTherapy Practice (HLT40312)

The Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice qualification

provides students with the skills required to work as basic

level massage therapists. The course provides skills in

therapeutic relaxation massage including basic health

assessment and treatment, and may be used by people

working within a clinic or in their own clinic, in an aged care

facility, in a spa facility, or in a palliative care facility or a

hospital.

Qualification OutcomesSuccessful graduates from the Certificate IV in MassageTherapy Practice course will have the skills andknowledge to gain work as a massage therapist in thefitness industry, sporting clubs, day spas and healthretreats or hospitals and care facilities.

Our most popular and highly recommended Beauty course is the Diploma of Beauty

Therapy. It has been designed as a high level qualification for those wishing to operate as a

beauty therapist, employing staff and managing a beauty salon. The course allows

students to learn the latest beauty industry techniques and to further expand their skills to a

Vocational Graduate Certificate in IPL and Laser Hair Reduction or university studies in

paramedical aesthetics. This is the most highly regarded of all Beauty qualifications.

Qualification OutcomesThe Diploma of Beauty Therapy is a nationally recognised qualification which isthe highest national beauty qualification available. Successful graduates have manyattractive career options; including: Owning, operating or managing a beauty salon;working at a day spa or health retreat; working internationally as a beauty therapist;working as a sales representative or area manager; and working in productdevelopment training. Students will learn the latest beauty industry techniques, alltheory and practical aspects of beauty therapy, including specialised spatreatments and micro- dermabrasion. Graduates at Australian International SkillsTraining have been given extensive real-world salon experience.

Course Duration and Study OptionsThe full time course runs for 12 months including scheduled holidays (dates willbe confirmed with each course intake). Classes are held two (2) days per week.

The part time course runs for 18 months (or equivalent) including scheduledholidays, as either a one (1) day a week or a night two (2) nights a week.

Qualification Outcomes

This course is designed for those who are looking to be trainedin the most popular salon treatments such as: Waxing, Tinting,Basic Skin Care . Students are having two (2 ) options to choosefrom either Nails Specialist or Make up Specialist.

This course will give you thorough training in these practical skills aswell as the theory to enable students to work in salon or work fromhome

Course Duration and Study OptionsThe course runs over 2 school terms with pre-written work and a 1day for Make up Elective or 2 days for Nails Elective face to faceintensive practical component with classes held from 10 am to 2.30pm. The 2 days face to face component can be spread to suit you orblocked as 2 days consecutively for those from a distance.

The theory component is equal to that provided to our full time students. Several units are able to be deliveredvia E-Learning enabling you to reach competency in these units without having to physically attend the Institute.This also allows you to work through these units at your own pace.

Distance learning students will complete their theory classes online via Internet lectures and at home studyand will be required to attend our practical training clinic at times that suit them for practical tuition.

Course policies

The main requirements of selection include:

We adhere to all equal opportunity legislation and pride ourselves on our selection process which is purely basedon student merit. Things such as race, creed, religion, disability etc have no place in selection process nor in ourestablishment and all staff and students are made fully aware of this.

Due to the high demand for places with our Institute, we recommend applying well before classes commenceto ensure a place is secured.

Industry legislation and standards require therapists to have a very high standard of health & hygiene whenworking with clients and other staff. All applicants will be required to meet all aspects of AIST’s selection criteriain this area and must demonstrate this level of health and fitness.

Full-time classes are held three to four days a week, including online learning, practical workshops, from 10am- 2.30 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday 9am - 5pm Clinic experience & Saturday 9am -5pm Mastering skills for Pre-Graduating students.

Part-time class offer evening classes 2 evenings per week from 6.00pm-9.30pm (Monday & Tuesday) togetherwith the option of a further 1 day per week from 9am to 5.00pm practical work experience.

In addition to course components, students will also have the opportunity to attend product schools andexcursions. These are not compulsory but are highly recommended to assist you with preparation for theworkplace. The dates and times of these external classes are set by external parties and may be held on aweekend. We will endeavor to provide you with dates & times well in advance.

The time required to complete the course depends upon the course, individual students schedule, previoustraining and application.

T o ensures that all students are able to demonstrate their competency when entering the workforce in theirchosen field. We provide small, relaxed and friendly classes, thus ensuring that all students are comfortablein their learning environment and receiving individual attention. All students are then assessed on acombination of practical skills both in the classroom and work environment and completion of the onlinetheory assessment at the end of each unit.

T o ensure that we cater for a variety of learning styles and students needs, a range of assessment strategiesare included such as:

Students are advised of times and places of assessment, well in advance of required times and dates. Allspecial needs a student may have, are considered.

Each Student allows to have up to six (4) attempts and two (2) final attempts for his/her or her or herassessment.

Students must attend all lessons and work experience days to be eligible toobtain a Diploma at the end of their studies. All non-attendances must besupported with a medical certificate or application to the Principal, inwriting, for leave of absence.

Should a student not attend (throughout the course) for 5 days or morewithout medical certificates or approval from the Director, in writing,additional charges may apply to make up for classes not attended.

This gives students valuable hands-on experience in both treatments and running of a Salon. Please notehowever that time spent in Clinic is not paid employment. Clinic has been created to provide students withhands-on experience which can be difficult to obtain while studying, and as such is a non-profit salon.

During time at Clinic, students are monitored and assessed by a qualified Trainer & Assessor. Each week theAssessor will report back to the principal to ascertain the competency of each student to ensure that any areasthat need improvement, will be discussed between student and trainer and the necessary steps taken to assistthe student to be competent in these areas.

T o apply for study with AIST, please complete the application form and forward it with your $250 enrolmentfee to the address on the Application Form, or you can deliver it personally to our office. You will then becontacted to arrange a suitable time for an interview if you have not already had one. Should your applicationnot proceed, there is a $250 non-refundable administration fee will be applied.

Student Information

Students are advised of the Induction Day date before course commencement. Materials such as studenthandbook, with all policies and procedures, notes, log books, timetables, uniforms, and student cards etc., willbe handed out on this day. Course Induction Day is a great way to meet fellow students and become familiarwith the surroundings at the Institute.

Our classes book out many months before starting date, especially for the January intake. Request One on Onetraining will occur additional fees and charges. Please contact administration for details on commencement datesand availability of places.

AIST celebrates the graduation of students at the end of an intensive course where family and friends attend tosee students be presented with their certificates after all their hard work. The graduation itself is a formal affairand is also an opportunity for our college to congratulate students and staff and present special awards.

We adhere to the use of specific guidelines for RPL. Our staff will work with you to complete the applicationform via a formal interview. Some work and life experiences and other qualifications may need to be assessedtheoretically and practically prior to RPL being awarded. We also recognize AQF qualifications and Statementsof Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations.

Student Support

AIST is fully supportive of any student that believes they require this support or if a lecturer believes it wouldbe in the student’s best interest and urges the student to make an appointment for a meeting with the Principal,without delay.

In addition, there are also a wide range of welfare support systems to help those who need support not onlywith their learning but with other areas of life such as pregnancy, drug usage support, abuse etc. All mattersare confidential and AIST strictly adheres to privacy legislation. Any student requiring assistance should seek anappointment with the Principal who will then refer you to the relevant professional or welfare support system,as necessary.

Each student’s skill level is assessed throughout the interview process andduring the first month or so of a student’s course. If a student is found not tomeet the day to day requirements of their chosen career, the Principal willspeak to that student privately to discuss support options to help them achievethe required standard. Students who receive Centrelink benefits or newmigrants to Australia, may be eligible (subject to Centrelink criteria), forfinancial assistance towards literacy programs.

AIST’s procedures ensure that:The complaint, appeal and outcome are accurately documented.The appeal is heard by an independent person or panel, if appropriate.Students are able to formally present their case.Students are given a written statement of the appeal outcomes, including reasons for the decision.The Institute acts in a constructive manner on any complaint found to be substantiated. A time framewill be implemented to ensure an outcome will be delivered.
