Setting

The story takes place in what used to be North America. North America was demolished by natural disasters. The remains of it turned into the country of Panem. Panem is separated into 13 different districts. The main characters, Katniss and Peeta, come from District 12. The 13th district was obliterated.

Characters

Katniss has long dark hair that is almost always in a braid. She is always in hunting attire. She is very protective when is comes to her little sister, Prim. She can be very stubborn and demanding when speaking to Prim, Haymitch, or Peeta. She is also very stern when she talks to her mother.

Peeta has short, dirty blonde hair. He wears a white cooking apron a lot when baking in his family’s bakery. Peeta is a very reserved person, he likes to isolate himself in his on serenity. He is an innocent boy, but his mom yells at him for the littlest reasons. Peeta is also very quite and doesn’t like to talk much.

Conflict

The conflict in the story was all the tributes having to survive in the wood while trying not to get killed. It was a man vs man and a man vs nature conflict.

At the reaping, Prim gets chosen as the girl tribute. But Katniss volunteers. Peeta Mellark is the boy tribute. They take a high-powered train to the capitol. They train and prepare for the games. Theme

The theme I chose for my book was “Try to keep your humanity and dignity as you strive to stay alive.” I like this theme because in this book, Peeta quotes “I’m not gonna let them change me.” and Katniss gave up everything in District 12 for love.

Point of View

This story was written in 1st person to put it in Katniss’ perspective. If the author changed the point of view of the story, it would be completely different. Like, if it were told in Peeta’s point of view, it would probably explain what he thought about the games and everything else.

Symbolism

The symbolism in my story was the golden pin the mayor’s daughter gave Katniss before she left for the capitol. The pin resembles district 12. It reminds Katniss of home.

I found a picture of the pin on this site. http://wanelo.com/
