FABRIC PREPARATION From fabric scraps, cut: 4 - 7" squares for leaves From plaid fabrics, cut: 26 - 2 1/2” squares for border 2 - 2 1/4” x WOF strips for binding From backing fabric, cut: 1 - 15" x 21" for quilt back 1 - 18" x 5" strip for hanging sleeve MATERIALS Finished Size = 13” x 19” Difficulty = Intermediate 8 1/2” x 14 1/2” piece beige fabric fabric scraps for leaves .3m total various plaid prints for border & binding .4m backing fabric 15" x 21" batting double sided fusible webbing 4 - 1" wood buttons coordinating threads TEMPLATE PREPARATION 1. FABRIC PREPARATION

From fabric scraps, cut:4 - 7" squares for leaves

From plaid fabrics, cut:26 - 2 1/2” squares for border2 - 2 1/4” x WOF strips for binding

From backing fabric, cut:1 - 15" x 21" for quilt back1 - 18" x 5" strip for hanging sleeve

TEMPLATE PREPARATION

1. Print templates and cut out along solid lines.

2. Trace templates onto paper side of fusible webbing. Cut out shapes, leaving 1/4 - 1/2" around solid lines.

3. Iron fusible webbing to wrong side of leaf fabric pieces, following manufacturer's instructions. Cut out along solid lines.

CENTRE PANEL

1. Remove fusible web paper backing from leaf fabric. Arrange leaves onto 8 1/2” x 14 1/2” beige centre panel background in a m[pleasing manner; press into place.

2. Using matching thread, and a narrow zig-zag or buttonhole stitch on your sewing machine, stitch leaves onto background fabric. Press.

BORDERS

1. Sew 7 - 2 1/2" plaid squares together in a long strip, pressing seams to one side. Make 2.

2. Sew strips to top and bottom of centre panel. Press seams towards border.

3. Sew 6 - 2 1/2" squares together in a long strip, pressing seams to one side. Make 2.

4. Sew strips to sides of centre panel. Press seams towards border.

PANEL ASSEMBLY

1. Layer backing, batting and quilt top; baste.

2. Machine stitch-in-the-ditch along seam of centre panel, and plaid squares of border.

3. Shadow quilt around leaves with coordinating thread.

4. Trim to 13” x 19”.

BINDING

1. Prepare and attach binding using your favourite method. Do not stitch binding down to back until hanging sleeve is attached.

FINISHING

Hanging Sleeve

1. Fold short ends of 18" x 5" backing fabric strip under 1/4" twice. Topstitch and press.

2. Fold strip in half lengthwise, right sides out; Line raw edges of hanging strip to raw edges of top side of the back of quilt; pin or baste.

3. Ease the top side of hanging sleeve slightly to allow room for hanging rod. Whipstitch into place at bottom.

Buttons

4. Sew buttons to centre of leaves using coordinating thread.
