SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ

Our History:

The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime

on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20,

1960. Join us in 2023 when we celebrate our 100th anniversary!

Sermons for September 1st

10:30 Service:

From Mount Nebo to Jericho: Part 1 Deuteronomy 34.1–4

[Presentation from the Middle-East]

6:00 Service:

From Mount Nebo to Jericho: Part 2 Joshua 6.11–14

[Presentation from the Middle-East]

Israel got to the point of no return (2Ch 36.16), and Proverbs warns in another place of

this possibility, “his calamity shall

come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy” (Pro 6.15).

He who is often rebuked, and

hardens his neck,

Will suddenly be destroyed, and

that without remedy.

– Proverbs 29.1

Beware of Hardening Your Heart

Although we have warning that the

destruction is coming, it still comes as a surprise

to the hardhearted.

“But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.”

– 2 Chronicles 36.16

This is the problem, having a

hardened neck. God knows we are sinners, and

He has great patience, waiting for us to change, but if we refuse, we have a major

problem.

God works with us, it seems endlessly, but this proverb shows that He

eventually stops if we will not change.

Slow me down, Lord! Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind. Steady my harried pace with a vision of the eternal reach of time. Give me, amidst the confusion of the day, the calmness of the everlasting hills.

Break the tension of my nerves with the soothing music of the singing streams that live in my memory. Help me to know the magical restoring power of sleep.

Teach me the art of taking minute vacations of slowing down to look at a flower; to chat with an old friend to make a new one; to pat a stray dog to watch a spider build a web; to smile at a child; or to read a few lines from a good book.

Remind me each day that the race is not always to the swift; that there is more to life than increasing in it's speed.

SOME WOULD GATHER money along the path of life, and some would gather roses and rest from earthly strife. But, I would gather children from among the paths of sin; I would seek a golden curl or a freckled toothless grin. For money cannot enter in that land of endless day and roses that are gathered soon will wilt along the way. But, Oh the laughing children as I cross the sunset sea and the gates swing wide to heaven; I can take them in with me. (Unknown)

Thank You Jim for hauling off the well loved couch it will be missed.

PRAYERS:

Update on Chris Duliakas "Chris is home now and feeling much better since the hospi-tal was able to rid most of the fluid from his body. Took a lot of pressure off his lungs so his breathing is better. All of the other tests were good..kidney, liver, stomach, and blood clotting in his legs. The only test he failed was having a weak heart. The cardiologist has arranged for home care three days a week which I'm happy about. So we'll keep you posted periodically." (Toby Duliakas)

The Proverbs of Solomon

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel…

– Proverbs 1.1

The reigns of David and his son Solomon were very different. The reign of David produced war. The reign of Solomon pro-duced wisdom. Yet, Solomon reveals in the Book of Proverbs that it was his father who taught him wisdom. The Lord used David to fight wars that the Lord wanted conducted, but that does not mean the en-tire reign of David was all about war. David was also a wise man, and he was wise for teaching his son. Solomon wrote later that his father urged to pour his life into getting wis-dom (Pro 4.3–7). Therefore, it should not surprise us that when the Lord approached Solomon with a wide open in-

vitation to ask for whatever he wanted, that he chose wisdom.

The Easy Good Work Is… The east good work is being a greeter!

What God Can Do God turns coal into diamonds, sand into pearls, and caterpil-lars into butterflies. So why do you think He cannot turn your life around?

The Difference Between What We See and What God Sees People saw Sarah as a barren woman, but God saw her as the Mother of an innumerable multitude. People saw David as a shepherd, but God saw him as the king of Israel. People saw Joseph as a prisoner, but God saw him as the second in command in Egypt. Learn to see people as God does.

God Takes the Undesirable and Makes Them Good Do you like buttermilk? My Mother used to drink butter-milk, but I think most people do not like it. How about lard? Do you like lard? Could just take a scoop of it and eat it? Have you taken a spoon and got a huge bite of flour? You haven’t? Why not? Yet, you probably eat biscuits. All three of those ingredients into biscuits, at least old time biscuits. Now consider that life is just like those biscuits and the in-gredients. We have unpleasant experiences, but the Lord puts them all together and makes something good of us.
