SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ
Our History:
The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime
on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20,
1960. Join us in 2023 when we celebrate our 100th anniversary!

Edom and the Edomites: Part 2 [Presentation from the Middle-East]
Since we cannot avoid death, it is
best to prepare for it. Do you know
how to prepare for death or rather for
what happens after death?
What man can live and not see
death?
Can he deliver his life from the
power of the grave?
– Psalm 89.48
No One Can Escape Without Seeing It
It eventually happens to all us, regardless of how great we managed to be on the earth. Death is the
great equalizer.
Also, we cannot get out of this life without seeing death happen to others, unless we die at a young
age.
People will pay anything to avoid death. Look at the huge amounts we pay for medical
care, yet, the time arrives when we all have to meet
death.
“Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever—that he should continue to live eternally, and
not see the Pit.” – Psalm 49.6–9

Why Preachers’ Kids Often Fall Behind
We take so many things for granted; a nice home, cars, fashionable clothing, and even education. Basically if you put forth just a little effort you can finish high school and work or borrow your way through college. If you really want to go, you can go. But that’s not true in all countries. If you are a peasant farmer in Tanzania, you can possibly make enough profit from your harvest to send your child to an average private school. However if your father is a preacher for a small congregation, about as far as you will go is pri-mary school. Secondary school is probably out of your parents’ reach because your father decided to dedicate his life to proclaiming the word of God. Fortunately at the Chimala Mission we believe that if a man is willing to dedicate his life to the ministry rather than pur-suing a more profitable career, we will try to help put his children through school. For that reason, we make occasional pleas in behalf of these children whose fathers wish to evangelize near their homes and villages. A new category has been added to the left of this arti-cle for anyone who would like to designate funds to help these par-ents send their children to the Chimala Mission Christian schools. Can you help make our preachers’ lives a little easier by help-ing to assure their children’s future?

Proverbs 9.4–6 | Wisdom’s Leadership
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
“Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have
mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of
understanding. – Proverbs 9.4–6
Wisdom invites all who are simple and need understand-ing, for that is what wisdom is: Understanding. Solomon presents wisdom as a woman, inviting us to eat of her bread and drink of the wine that she has mixed. She teaches us to forsake foolishness, for in so doing we shall live. Forsaking foolishness means we shall go in the way of understanding.
See whether these things are true. Think of people whom you believe are wise. Are they not understanding people? That is probably why you admire them. Now do the same.
Why Do the Wicked Flourish? It troubles us to see wickedness increase. Yet, it might be that the Lord is allowing them to grow up that He might cut them down (Matthew 13.24–30, 36–43). Consider what the psalmist said:
“When the wicked spring up like grass,
And when all the workers of iniquity flourish,
It is that they may be destroyed forever.”
– Psalm 92.7
No More Seminars Our Fall Seminar has been a huge success as we have seen many people come to it. Our
visitors always outnumbered our members, and those out-side of the Churches of Christ have outnumbered guests from other Churches of Christ. However, that success hap-pened because of the amount of work that I put into advertis-ing them. Every summer it about wore me out. I asked the elders if we can stop doing the seminars, but I left the door open in the event that I hear of someone who holds a seminar that I think we might need. This was something that we did for our community and in so do-ing we made known the truth and people knew about the Savage Street Church of Christ.
