General Business:
*Northam Palliative Care:- The much needed item, an Oxygen Concentrator, has been ordered and paid for, and is
waiting on delivery. We will have a plaque made and place it on the item in recognition of our donation, ready for it to
be handed over.
*Shed Items: Barry reported that there were 2 1928-29 Model A steering boxes in shed. Moved: Murray Sumpton..
Sec: Theo Bekkers (Jr).. That Barry Bristow-Stagg take both steering boxes for $40. Carried
*Avon River Festival:- After some discussion, this was found by those present at the meeting to be somewhat
impractical due to the season, time of day & speed of parade. The request for attendance of vintage cars was made
late, due to the request being made to a Perth Club. The Perth Club reminded the Shire Events person that there is a
Club in Northam. There was no positive response at present re vintage cars participating in the parade, however
Members in general will be advised via the newsletter and the July meeting.
*Avondale: Mention was made that Dina Barrett-Leonard was no longer at Avondale. Changes in people, the place
closed in general, and the reliance on interested volunteers keeping things working.
*Concessional License Changes: As soon as any changes are advised the information will be given to members.
*Bert and Angie Hayes: Permission to use their MG in the Bay to Birdwood Event in September. Will be done.
*Model A record: Last weekend newspaper cited that 2 people from WA completed a run from the Gold Coast to
Perth in record hours with no problems.
*John King: This is John’s last meeting as President. He will be absent for the AGM, away overseas and not re-
nominating as President. He has submitted a nomination, Murray Sumpton, for President, to be presented at the AGM.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 8.40pm

The day started out with blue skies, fine and even warmish. We were first greeted byBernie & Jan Howell, then we met with Arthur Millea & Kevin Lupton & then John King.About 11.30am the sky had turned almost black, the wind had whipped up strong &then down came the rain, everyone scattering for shelter. One gazebo was demolished. Two other Model A Club enthusiasts were there one with another ‘Victoria’It was still good to catch up with you all even for such a shortish time.
Some of the many Vehicles on Show
COAST TO COAST IN 50 HOURS AND 6 SECONDS WITH A MODEL A FORD Setting a new record for the run in a pre-war car, Ozzies Rod Wade and Michael Flanders got from Staten Island to Venice Beach in rather less than the 60 hours they were aiming for. They reckon they could have done even better had Michael not encountered his first snow ever in the most unlikely place: Amarillo, Texas. They battled on, however, past overturned RVs and stopping every few miles to get the ice off the windscreen- no heated screens in a 1930 Model A. Amarillo was doubly scary because that's where the team got stranded in an earlier attempt with a broken crankshaft. They did have a support vehicle with spares and mechanics: a 1988 Plymouth Gran Fury cop car. Of course. More on the team and the kidney charity they support on the vintage adventurer website. While there's no doubt that the feat was down to the team and their prep, I have to say I'm well impressed by the continuing solidity and reliability of the Model A eighty years after production ended.

The piece above was taken from a New Zealand Newsletter, the link above was also included for those of you that may be more interested. It was originally thought that the trip was done in a Model A, coast to coast in Australia, however this one is ‘coast to coast’ in America, but done by Aussies.
It really is the last Ford that Henry forgot to build obsolescence into. Having said that, if I'd want to beat that record, I think I'd better start looking for a late '30s Buick Century….

I think what happened here is, the man told his wife he needed to paint his car and when he told her how much it would cost, she told him to“save his pennies”.
The $383.00 ‘paint’ Job .
1949 Cadillac, completely covered with 38,295 pennies! They were affixed one by one using Silicone. They added over 200 pounds to the
vehicle's weight.
