Carried Reports: Shed Report: Busy bee last Saturday was for Swapmeet, still need a busy bee this Saturday. Rest of Shed was water blasted, as soda blasting may take off galvanising & is more expensive. Work still to be done around grounds. Events Our Annual SwapMeet was an ongoing success, at least up to 5% better, maybe more. The Lions Club of Northam did a fantastic job again on the Gates, opening them up for Sellers a lot earlier certainly relieved any possibility of a ‘bottle-neck’ like last year. More attention will need to be paid next year to the placing of stalls & displays on the Oval. The warm weather caused the constant replenishing of cooldrinks, especially water. Avon Valley Vintage Festival: On 1st & 2nd March (long weekend). Cars & some motorcycles have been organised, and Vehicles left in situ will be under security, same as last year. Brookton Old Time Motor Show is the next event on 22nd Mar. This is usually a good event although so far only 4 or 5 Members have indicated their intention of attending. A couple of other Members will attend if their projects are completed in time. Moved: Jim Donovan… Seconded: Scott Andrews… That the reports be accepted Carried New Members: Michael Greenwood & Albert Fourie of Tammin, with 3 Austins, 2 x 1959 A40 Farina, one original & one restored, and a 1955 A35 unrestored. Moved: Jeff Mills… Seconded: David Brinckley… That they be accepted as Members of our Club. General Business: *Shire of Goomalling- Anzac Day Ball, Their request for a 1920s Car on that day cannot be fulfilled, no car is available, and certainly not at night. *Classic Car Show 27th April. Andrew Wells needs lists of attendees & PO./email details before 23rd March. Passes for entry are mandatory, & will be obtained by Andrew on the 23rd March orientation day, to be distributed before the 27th April. Members wishing to attend need to provide their intentions & details before 23rd March *Old Northam Railway Station – Parking: Second communication acknowledging our letter last year, advising that issues from our letter are being considered, and we will receive a formal response soon. *VAA: per Michael Hill. Inviting our Club to join them on National Motoring Heritage Day, 18th May. They will be leaving from Bellevue & driving to Grass Valley Tavern for lunch. Six Members indicated they would be prepared to join the VAA at lunch, with the possibility of 2 others. Numbers are needed so that the VAA can organise catering at the Grass Valley Tavern. There is a possibility of a stop before and/or after at local Members venues, this to be checked out. *10th Light Horse Event: With Military in attendance about March/April. No other information known at this stage. *Model A: Discussion ensued re the tender for same. After further discussion a decision was made- Moved: Murray Sumpton.. Seconded: Malcolm Strahan… That the Model A be sold as per Tender Requirements, to the Tenderer. Carried *David Brinckley: a Member & Club supporter for some years. David advised that he would be leaving for Victoria the next week. It has been a pleasure being a Member of our Club, and he wished to stay as a Member and in contact with the Club. David was similarly thanked by all present for his support and dedication to the Club over the years, and that we wished him all the best for the future. David also indicated that his truck would remain here unless it was sold. *Other Model A parts: that are for sale, not 1930s. Not until the present tender was completed. There being no further business the meeting closed at 9.10pm

President's Report March 2014 The AVVVA had a display of nine vehicles at the Avon Valley Vintage Festival on 1st - 2nd March. The Club displayed 2 cars and the Harley with Side Car, Bert & Angie Hayes 2 cars, Fred & Linda Singleton 2 cars, John & Hazel King 2 cars and Malcolm Strahan proudly displayed his recently finished restoration of the 1926 International Truck. Brookton Old Time Motor Show is on 22nd March and the same weekend is the Tin Dog Motor Weekend and Swap Meet at Dowerin. Sunday the 27th April is the Classic Car Show at Whiteman Park. (If you are attending this event please advise Andrew Wells before 23rd March to enable him to post an entry pass ticket to you.) Cheers John Bill Gates V’s General Motors “The PC industry is different than any other industry. The volume, the openness, the innovation, it's really unequaled. In fact, comparisons are often done between this industry and others, and it's just stunning when you look at it. The price of a mid-sized GM auto, it's about double what it used to be... And if you take that and say, what would those prices be if it were like the PC industry, the car would cost about $25 and do 1000 miles to the gallon." Bill Gates at the COMDEX computer expo, November 1997 (This comment, and a response purported to be from the CEO of General Motors has become urban legend) Attributed reply from General Motors CEO : If GM developed technology like Microsoft , we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics. For no reason whatsoever , your car would crash twice a day. Every time they repainted the lines in the road , you would have to buy a new car. Occasionally, your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all the windows, shut off the car, restart it and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun , was reliable , five times as fast and twice as easy to drive but would run on only 5% of the roads. Every time a new car was introduced , car buyers would have to learn all over again how to drive because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. ( Note: The UK programme Top Gear decided that the first car to be produced with modern features and ease of driving , as we are used to now , was the 1923 Austin Seven and that was 91 years ago ! Ed. )
