TASK DESCRIPTION
– Task 1464 (Engage Target with Area Weapons System) describes the dynamic harmonization process
– Your checklist contains the required steps, but there is an error to correct. The NOTE reads 500 – 1000 meters, but IAW the ATM, harmon-ization is authorized up to 1500 meters.
CONDITIONS
1. In an AH-64D Helicopter or LCT with operational checks and boresights completed for applicable sighting systems (HDU, M-TADS, FCR).
2. Weapons system initialization completed.
3. Live or synthetic ammunition (train mode) loaded.
STANDARDS
Appropriate common standards and the following:• 1. Correctly initialize and place the system into
operation.
• 2. Conduct AWS dynamic harmonization procedure IAW TM 1-1520-251-CL if required.
• 3. Correctly employ the gun to achieve the desired target effect (destruction/neutralization/suppression).
PREFLIGHT– Verify that the hydraulic lines are zip tied to the
gun mount to prevent the lines from shifting in flight.
– Check the nickel gage pressure to verify it is at or near .55 psi.
3. HARMONIZE button– Select
1. WPN page – Select.
2. GUN button – Select.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES

4. Sight Select switch – TADS.
6. WAS – GUN
5. Target – Auto track in NFOV DTV/FLIR.
In other words, turn on IAT, and ensure you are up Narrow FOV.

OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
11. MAN TRK thumbforce controller – Position dashed reticle over MPI.
10. Observe Mean Point of Impact (MPI) of rounds.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
12. STORE/UPDATE switch – Store (Harmonize button will automatically be deselected)
NOTE: To ensure that the new harmonization took, go to the DMS UTIL Page, select Harmonize, and ensure that these values changed from what was in the logbook. If they didn’t, then the harmonization didn’t complete properly.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
13. GUN DH NOT VALID status window – Verify not displayed. If present repeat steps 3 through 12.
14. WAS – Deselect as desired.
15. A/S button – As desired.
16. Sight Select switch – Select as desired.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
1. With a proper dynamic harmonization established, the CPG will select the DMS UTIL page and then select the boresight button.
2. The DMS boresight page will now be displayed.
3. Select harmonize gun button and transcribe the displayed correctors to the logbook’s boresight corrector sheet (2408-4-4).
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
4. Validate the dynamic harmonization by re-engaging the BMP frontal (size) dynamic harmonization target from the same point, range, and altitude with 10 rounds. TIP: It is recommended to reselect HARMONIZE in case it needs further adjustment.
5. Engage target and validate dynamic harmonization using the TADS sight with the NORM gun mode selected.
6. A dynamically harmonized aircraft should be able to place 10 out of 10 rounds through an 18-meter area weapon system (AWS) fan (AWS range dependent) and Task 1464.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES
– Once the dynamic harmonization steps are complete, you still have one more procedure with which you must comply: accurately transcribe dynamic harmonization data to the aircraft logbook. This includes:– accounting for rounds entered on the -12 entry, under
M230.– accounting for rounds fired on the 2408-4-1.
Remember, after firing the gun, the PC shall
visually inspect the gun. And it never hurts to
(re)verify that the chamber is empty.
