Raise school attendance of school aged children in the project focus area from 60% at baseline to 95% in year 5

Increase childhood learning capacity of birth to 6 aged children in the project focus area from 10% at baseline to 70% in year 5

Increase number of school aged children passing basic learning capacity test from 15% at baseline to 85% in year 5 in project focus communities

Increase number of girls’ continuing education beyond 7th standard within project focus area from 15% at baseline to 70% in year 5

8th to 9th std. of Girls complete their secondary school certificate examination from 10% to 70% in year 5 in project focus communities

• Conducted 150 home visits in this quarter.• Created awareness among the family members the use of different

education material.E.g: Use of picture for knowing colour, body parts etc. This activity was done on a regular basis.Achievement • 20 % infants know about physical touch of mother & father.• 30 % Children could express themselves.• They are more confident and focused than last quarter’s inspection.• Children were regular and punctual in school.• Children improved their thinking power.• Parents sent their children to school in neat & clean clothes.

Activity • Hygiene awareness was created through 4 workshops.• Mid day meal is given to students daily with the support of ICDC.• Water bottles, Tiffin boxes, compass box, shoes, socks, cycle, toys,

sports material were distributed to children through Goonj Foundation.

• A cricket match was held between K.C.Gandhi English School & the Brick Kiln workers’ children for increasing interaction and sensitising the students about each others’ outlook.

Achievement• Children came to centre on regular basis.• Children learnt new things.• In last quarter we had 45 children in our centre but after doing the

above activities and increasing our reach, the centre now provides NFE to 67 students.

• Children are happy to attend the centre & behave well with others.• Children have started recognising alphabet in English & Marathi. • Basic arithmetic is being learnt by students. • Children were taught the art of craft and origami.

Activity • Students were dropped to school daily accompanied by a centre

teacher.• The centre teacher assists in solving difficult problems.• Mid day meal was organised for students in ZP school.• Some students were given cycle to go to school.• Educational material such as pen, note book, water bottle, tiffin etc.

was given to students for their use during school time. Achievement• 26 Children are regularly going to school.• Children are happy to attend school.• Many brick kiln workers agreed to send their children to school on

regular basis even though it meant less help for the family at the kiln.• Children agreed and pledged to go to school regularly in their own

village.

Activity• Regular parent meetings were conducted 3 time in a month (total 9

meetings were held).• Counselling workshops for parents were held 2 times every month

(Total 6 workshops were conducted for parents in the quarter).• Conducted 10 home visits with seniors to apprise family members of

the benefit of continuing education and hostel accommodation.Achievement • 10 children were convinced for regular education in hostel program.

Activity• Daily Home visit (250 visits were made by counsellors in this

quarter).• Parents’ meeting was conducted 6 times in this quarter.• 3 workshops were organised for parents in child care and child

development stages in this quarter.Achievement • 25% of the parents sensitised with the Potli programme are

conducting the “proliteracy” mentioned activities perfectly.• Children can recognise their parents, family members, neighbours.• They are familiar to colour, food, toys etc.

Activity• To teach some simple methods of study to those student who are weak

in studies for that we took 4 workshops.• Subject wise groups were created. • Mock exam of students was conducted.• Extra classes for some students were conducted at their home.• Girl students spent a day at KidZania, an educational & entertainment

centre for children at R-CITY mall, Ghatkopar.Achievement• All students were going to school without any travel cost.• Children solved their problem without any support.• 80% of children improved in their studies post intervention.• The visit to KidZania had a positive impact on the students. The

activities helped them to express themselves positively and effectively.

Activity• Organized 10 workshops for girls in a week.• Conducted home visits to every girl’s house for counselling (total 121

home visits).• Organized 1 parent’s meeting every month.• Sensitised parents & girls about women empowerment and various

government facilities available for them. Achievement• Out of 140 girls, 50 girls started attending school regularly. They

would like to become financially independent first and then think about marriage.

• Parents agreed to send their girl child to school and continue education after 7th std.

• Some parents also agreed to continue education for their daughters even at a faraway place.

Activity • 4 computers were installed in ZP schools for imparting computer

knowledge.• Conducted a workshop in Gorpe gaon where information about

income generating occupation was given to girls. Details about tailoring, ready to eat / packaged food products, etc. was given to participants. Information on raw material availability and buyers of products was also given to them.

Achievement • New batch of 20 students has been started in “Gorpe Goan” for Basic

computer training.• 40 girls enrolled to take regular computer education.• 250 girls were convinced and counselled to attend computer skills

training in 8 village( Piswali, Shirvali, Shirvali wadi, Gorpe, Newali, Newali pada, Dawalpada, Dwarali)

The first quarter has been quite eventful; much is achieved but lots to be done yet. Please convey your observations and remarks on the programs. Also suggest events or activities for raising funds for the programs.

Republic day was celebrated by the staff, students and beneficiaries of the project.

Mr.Keval Saha & Miss. Ammy visited our program to make a documentary film on the way the program is being handled.

Miss. Andra & Mr.Padmadhar visited the project for conducting success story interview.

Mr. Sudaka (Program manager, Karuna Trust) visited the project.

Mr & Mrs. Sheikh (Amway group, Kalyan) provided 50 blanket for the NFE center.

A visit was organized to (KIDZANIA) R-City mall for girl students under the village girl child beneficiary program in the month of Jan 14.

SMILE FOUNDATION donated clothes for the students of NFE center.

GOONJ FOUNDATION donated note books, Tiffin box, water bottle, compass, drawing books, sketch pens, shoes, socks, pencil and study related material.

World woman’s day was celebrated and on the occasion of this program 45 umbrellas were distributed to the girls.

Students & Staff of K.C.Gandhi English School, Kalyan visited the NFE center at BHAL.
