High School Enrolment Next week students in Year 6 will bring home a Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government school in 2020 Information Guide which contains an ‘Expression of Interest’ form for students requesting a place at a NSW Government high school in 2020. This form is not an application to enrol at the school. This form must be returned to the school by Friday 8 March even if your child will be attending a non-government high school in 2020. For further information about the enrolment process please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Being Safe on the Internet Playing games, looking at videos and talking to friends online can be a lot of fun! Take a look at the tips on the Kids Helpline website at https://kidshelpline.com.au/kids/issues/being-safe-internet to make sure your children do it safely.

Chess Club Learn to be a chess champion! Coaching for students will be held for Years 3-6 on Tuesdays from 1:10pm to 1:55pm, which commenced on Tuesday 12 February 2019. Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment. Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games. Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop. If your child is interested in taking part, you can collect an enrolment form from the school office, or email [email protected] for a copy. For all enquiries, please contact Sydney Academy of Chess on (02) 9745 1170. School Banking School banking is up and running for 2019! Students hand in their deposit books and money to their class teachers on Tuesday mornings. For those who would like to start school banking, you will need to open a Youthsaver Account directly with the Commonwealth Bank. For more information visit https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html Every time a deposit is made, the children earn Dollarmites which can be saved up to redeem rewards. This year the children can keep track of their Dollarmites balance using the CommBank Youth App. For details see https://www.commbank.com.au/digital-banking/youth-app.html we will no longer be giving out the Dollarmites tokens. New banking volunteers are always welcome. It's just one hour on Tuesday mornings from 9:15am, two or three times per Term. If you are interested, please contact Billy Anderson at [email protected] PSSA Sport PSSA Teams will be finalised by this Friday 15 February with Round 1 commencing on Friday 22 February. 2019 Premier Reading Challenge The Premier Reading Challenge opens on 4 March 2019. The challenge encourages students to develop a love of reading for leisure and pleasure. Information about the challenge will be provided to students in the coming days. Class Coordinator Callout Years 1 to 6 Class Coordinators are integral to helping the P&C and the teachers communicate with parents. Please consider if you can sign up for this role for your class for a couple of terms. Note: the role now spans a semester/half the year, i.e. two people per two Terms instead of two people each Term. We will provide class lists to all Class Coordinators for this semester prior to the Parent Information nights next week so they can use that opportunity to ensure all parents have added their details. The weekly P&C Newsletter ‘In the Loop’ will start from Friday 22 February. We are still missing Class Coordinators for the first semester in classes: 3S and 4CB and there are still a few gaps in the second semester Terms 3 and 4 (see second tab in the Google sheet). Click here to put your name down for your class. Bally Bolt - Early bird rates and fundraising Early bird tickets are now on sale for the Bally Bolt fun run on Sunday 17 March. Go to www.ballybolt.com to register and for more info. This year we hope to make Bally Bolt our big P&C fundraising event of the year and we are doing two new things: 1) *NEW* Charity: We have partnered with a charity and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to a very worthwhile cause - the proposed Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice. Click here to find out more. 2) *NEW* Sponsorship: Giving the children a chance to get sponsored by family and friends for running the race. Next week, every student will come home with a sponsorship pack which contains a simple guide to setting up an online sponsorship form. We really encourage you to get on board with this. Children will be able to collect prizes after the race based on how much they raised and all proceeds will go to our P&C Building Fund and are tax-deductible! It's a great way, for example, for overseas family members to get involved and support the school. The Building Fund gives the school an opportunity to improve building and grounds, and supports the planned school assets masterplan, as mentioned by Mr David Shuster at the P&C meeting on Monday night. Click here to find out more about the student sponsorship program. Don’t forget to like our Facebook event page to be kept updated: https://www.facebook.com/events/302550343791603/ We are looking for volunteers to help us with making this awesome community event happen. We need 5 people to help with putting up posters - Please email Diana if you can help with this or volunteer in any other capacity. Kindy Welcome Drinks - Friday 8 March Come and enjoy a welcome drink and canapes at the Balgowlah RSL on Friday 8 March at 7.30pm. This is such a great opportunity to meet new people and make some friends for life! Tickets are available on Flexischools.

Walking Bus Just a reminder, our three routes are up and running. If you would like to join these routes, either as a driver or participant, please email Diana at [email protected]. Route 1 - Departing the bottom of Ernest Street (Wednesday morning) Route 2 - Departing from Willawa Street (Wednesday morning) Route 3 - Departing from corner of White/Wanganella (Tuesday and Friday morning) We would like to start a new route from the bottom of Woodland Street. If there any parents interested in potentially exploring this option, or if you would like to join the routes above, please email Diana at [email protected] to sign up.

*Summer drinks on Saturday 23 February are SOLD OUT!*

Loretta Mykityshyn Uniform Shop Manager [email protected] Thank you to all the parents and children supporting our reusable cups initiative. The children have been so responsible returning their cups. We are very proud of them. Please remember that the new cut-off time to order lunch on Flexischools is 8.45am. Also if you child does PSSA please mark it on Flexischools. With the recent heatwave, the children have really enjoyed the icy treats on offer at the canteen. Unfortunately, the K-2 campus has missed out, as we haven't had any volunteers on a Friday to sell frozen treats to them. Ice-blocks on a Friday (or any other hot day!) is a real treat for our littlies, so please help us out if you have a spare half an hour on any hot day. Go to http://signup.com/go/yaQUgsw to sign-up. And for the new kindy parents, it's a great way to meet other parents and see your child at play! Kindy Club - Biggest Year Yet ! We hope all the Kindies are settling in well, this is our biggest year yet. This week saw the start of our ever popular Kindy Club. The Club gives the new starters a chance to bond and get to know one another in their own little time. The Kindies take part in stories, craft making and team building games. Kindy Club will run 3.45pm - 4.30pm every day for the whole of this Term, we feel this really helps the children with their transition in School and Arabanoo. Breakfast Times - Arrive before 8:15am Please be aware if your child would like the breakfast special in the mornings they need to arrive before 8:15am. Toast, cereal and fruit are available until 8:25am. Sign In and Out - Press 'Done' Please ensure when signing your child in and out on the iPad that you press 'done' as the final step. We are finding parents/carers aren't completing the sign in process correctly. This is vital to be completed correctly as we may not know if your child has been dropped off or picked up. Extra-Curricular Activities - New 2019 Forms Needed If your child is attending an extra-curricular activity during their time at Arabanoo (either morning or afternoon) we require a permission form to be completed and returned. Without this form your child won't have permission to attend these activities. We require the updated 2019 forms for all children, 2018 form won't be accepted. An extra-curricular activity is one which has not been organised by Arabanoo e.g. a trumpet lesson, music bus, karate lesson or netball training. Contact Us - Email: [email protected]
